In 2006, Mike Leahy was the front man for the psychobilly band called 7 Shot Screamers. Doing something with your life like being the frontman for a psychobilly band called the 7 Shot Screamers is never not interesting and adventurous. What it isn’t always is lucrative. So Leahy started looking for ways to supplement his income. He thought about dressing up as a clown or as Elvis Presley and hiring himself out for events. “I thought I could perform at nursing homes or store openings,” Leahy said in a phone interview with Fort Wayne Magazine. “Things I could do anonymously.” But something unfor ..read more

Fort Wayne’s glorious natural spaces are some of the best in the Midwest. This is the year to get out there and experience all that the region has to offer. If you’re like me, you have dreamt of escaping to a natural paradise to explore. Towering mountains, backpacks, worn dirt footpaths, and being the first person to be kissed by the morning sunrise—the whole shebang. Despite this dream, there is no need to travel to some far away land to connect with nature. Right under our very noses, northeast Indiana is the home to some beautiful natural wonders.  John Muir, one of the most influenti ..read more

Leading through the Aftershock: When I signed on to be Chancellor of the Fort Wayne service area with Ivy Tech Community College in August of 2021, I thought I had a pretty good idea of what I would encounter. After all, I had held positions throughout the College for more than 20 years and had served on the campus Chancellor’s Cabinet for more than a decade. I was ready for new challenges, but nothing prepared me for the challenges that lay ahead. Or the joys that would come with them.  The Honeymoon: My first six months as Chancellor felt a lot like a new marriage. There was a honeymoon ..read more

Recent studies have shown that most people give up on their New Year’s Resolutions within 20 seconds of the stroke of midnight on January first. I may have gotten the exact amount of time wrong there. No one, however, has come to feel that it is a waste of time to read a Steve Penhollow column about New Year’s Resolutio ..read more

In a year where it didn’t seem like there was much to celebrate on a global scale, Fort Wayne came through again with another great addition to our city. Downtown already has amazing places to eat, shop, play, and congregate, and now we have a state-of the art hospital.
