OAKLAND (BCN) — A man was sentenced Thursday morning to 50 years to life for killing Hayward Police Sgt. Scott Lunger nearly seven years ago. In a packed courtroom of family and friends for defendant Mark Estrada as well as police and Lunger’s family, Judge C. Don Clay announced the sentence following a negotiated disposition. HAYWARD (CBS SF/BCN) — A man was shot and killed Friday afternoon in Hayward in the city’s third homicide this year, police said. The victim’s name is not being released yet. MERCED (CBS SF) — Hayward mother Samantha Johnson pleaded not guilty Monday to charges she murdered her 8-year-old daughter Sophia Mason, whose body was found in a bathtub inside the Merced County home of Johnson’s boyfriend. MERCED (KPIX 5) — A body discovered in a Merced home last week has been identified as that of eight-year-old Sophia Mason, a missing Hayward girl whose mother has been arrested for her murder.
