CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – After almost four months of failed votes, controversy and debate, the 26th Clarksville-Montgomery County School System elementary school finally has a name: Freedom. On Tuesday night, the School Board voted on the long-awaited naming. With 11 names to consider, plus a last-minute amendment from Aron Maberry, board members filled out handwritten ballots to cast their votes. Trial begins for former EMT charged with rape of patient during ambulance trip

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – A former ambulance worker is on trial this week, charged with the rape of a patient while they were in transit. On March 10, 2017, police were dispatched to Alfred Thun Road in Clarksville to investigate an emergency medical technician (EMT) who was transporting a patient from a Nashville hospital. According to previous Clarksville Now reports, the suspect, then 20-year-old Samuel Rutherford of Hendersonville, was in the back of the private emergency vehicle with the female patient. Update, 3:50 p.m.: The roadway is back open, according to police. Two of the drivers were transported with moderate/non-life-threatening injuries. Previously: CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Part of Wilma Rudolph Boulevard was shut down Tuesday afternoon by multi-vehicle wreck that sent one truck crashing into a paint store. At about 7:24 a.m., there was a non-injury crash at Ashland City Road and Glenstone Drive, according to Clarksville Police spokesman Scott Beaubien. CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Three dogs were killed in a house fire on Crabtree Circle in south Clarksville Saturday night. The fire was mainly in the basement, but it spread to the main floor as well, according to Clarksville Fire Rescue Assistant Chief Michael Rios. All occupants escaped safely after being alerted by a neighbor. Three dogs were lost in the fire. No other injuries were reported, Rios said. A house on Crabtree Circle caught fire on April 20, 2024.
