An integral part of the massive $300 million Sacramento Zoo relocation project to be approved next Wednesday by Elk Grove Mayor Bobbie Singh-Allen and her city council is a $50 million commitment by the Sacramento Zoological Society.  The 608-page staff report, a labyrinth of information, includes some information about the SZS's $50 million commitment. Elk Grove Police are seeking assistance in locating two suspects wanted in connection with a May 2 bank robbery in Elk Grove.  According to police reports, at 10:20 a.m. the suspects entered the US Bank at 9230 Elk Grove Florin Road, approached a teller while the other suspect in the dark hooded sweatshirt, pointed a gun at the employee and demanded money. The teller complied and and after taking the money, the suspects exited fled on foot.      Suspect one was described as a Black male, late teens or early 20’s, five feet five inches tall (5’5”), and th ..read more

Under the plan, the Sacramento Zoological Society has promised to raise $50 million towards the construction. Today the Commission on Judicial Performance announced that Lassen County Superior Court Judge Tony R. Mallory will be removed from the bench. The commission found that Judge Mallery was involved in 23 acts of willful contact and 36 acts of prejudicial misconduct. Among the finding was Mallery engaged "in a pattern of conduct involving retaliating against court employees Brandy Cook, Crystal Jones, and Marian Tweddell-Wirthlin for cooperating with the commission and discouraging them from cooperating with the commission." CCSD Directors commit to providing more assistance to Elk Grove's Western Festival so event can resume next year

During their regular meeting last night, the Cosumnes Community Services Board of Directors verbally committed to ensuring the Western Festival will return next year. On April 29, CCSD general manager Phil Lewis issued a letter to the Western Festival volunteer organization stating that the annual event held at Elk Grove Regional Park was canceled after they failed to comply with any paperwork requirements. When appearing in the recent Zoom meeting on the financing the relocation of the Sacramento Zoo, the executive director of the Sacramento Zoological Society intimated that they could raise $50 million to cover their share of the $300 million zoo. When asked about donors, Jason Jacobs refused to say who the SZS was targeting in its fundraising effort, much less who had committed. Appearing before the U.S. Court of Appeal 9th Circuit appealing the case Jennifer Landerso v. Samuel Schafer is plaintiffs attorney Eric Grant. |  A few years before the murder of George Floyd while in custody with Minneapolis Police sparked a national civil rights movement, there was a similar case in Elk Grove, Calif. In that case, Daniel Landeros died while in custody after being taken into custody by Elk Grove Police. Landeros died on November 30, 2016.
