Ranking Saints' biggest team needs for Day 2 of NFL draft
Saints Wire

The New Orleans Saints accomplished what every team hopes to in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft — addressing their most important need with a great value pick. Oregon State right tackle Taliese Fuaga can man the spot Ryan Ramczyk has held and plug one of a couple holes in the Saints’ offensive line. So what now? We’re already on to Day 2 of the draft, where the Saints own just one pick in the next two rounds (at No. 45 overall, or the 13th pick in Round 2). Obviously they still have many positions of need. But where should they move first? Or will the draft dictate that for them? Here’s ..read more

We’re on to the second day of the 2024 NFL draft. The New Orleans Saints only own one pick (for now), but they’re well-positioned to get a talented player. The Saints are scheduled to pick at No. 45 overall, which is the 13th pick in the second round. After trimming our big board down to players who meet the athletic thresholds the Saints have shown they value, and accounting for those picked in Round 1, we’ve assembled a list of 25 targets. There’s a very real chance the Saints will try to trade up and get another pick on Day 2 if some of them fall further than expected. There’s a good chanc ..read more

Report: Saints among teams that tried to trade up for Michael Penix Jr.
Saints Wire

The first round of the 2024 NFL draft could have been even wackier. NFL Media’s James Palmer reports that the New Orleans Saints were one of three teams who tried to trade up for Michael Penix Jr., the Atlanta Falcons’ surprise first-round quarterback. Palmer adds that the Seattle Seahawks and Las Vegas  Raiders also tried to get into the top 10 picks targeting Penix. And that would have been a baffling pick for New Orleans. Derek Carr has his share of detractors after a rough first season in black and gold, so it’s worth looking into a better backup plan than what the Saints fielded last ..read more

NFC South draft grades after Round 1
Saints Wire
by Jeremy Trottier

With Round 1 of the NFL draft in the books, we got a good idea of what each team in the NFC South was looking to do with their selections. Each team had different needs to fill, with some picks doing so while others were more elective in their choice of positions. Ultimately, it was an interesting first round all around, but specifically for the division, which had what we believe to be good and back picks. Let’s take a look at how we graded out each pick from all four teams in the NFC South ..read more

Brock Bowers would have been in consideration for Saints at No. 14
Saints Wire

Few prospects in the 2024 NFL draft caused more discussion among New Orleans Saints fans than Brock Bowers. The Georgia Bulldogs tight end is a phenomenal pass catcher, and it was fun to envision him bringing those skills to New Orleans. It just wasn’t meant to be. The Las Vegas Raiders picked Bowers at No. 13, one spot ahead of the Saints, making New Orleans’ decision easier. But it was a near thing. If Bowers had lasted one more pick, it would’ve led to a debate in the war room. Just ask Dennis Allen. “Brock Bowers was in consideration for us. And that he got all the way to,  pick 13, w ..read more

The Carolina Panthers have traded up and selected South Carolina wide receiver Xavier Legette with the No. 32 overall pick in the 2024 NFL draft. It was a surprise, but definitely a welcome one for quarterback Bryce Young as they continue to build out the offense. The South Carolina native broke out this season with 1,255 yards and seven touchdowns. He has a lot of playmaking ability, but has some work to do to become the alpha of a wide receiver room. He’s not too different from their current top receiver Jonathan Mingo. Now, they will not be drafting at the top of the second round on Day 2 ..read more

Taliese Fuaga has a lot of fans. The New Orleans Saints picked the Oregon State right tackle in the first round of the 2024 NFL draft, and it wasn’t a decision that shocked some of Fuaga’s biggest supporters. One of those movers and shakers around the NFL is Senior Bowl director Jim Nagy, who praised Fuaga in a conference call with local media. “They drafted a guy who is going to be a Day 1 starter. Slam dunk,” Nagy told Nola.com’s Rod Walker after the Saints announced the pick. He added, “He’s a really nimble, big human being. And he’s a bully.” Fuaga was voted the National Team practice play ..read more
