WORCESTER – The office of Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr. announced today that a Worcester grant jury has indicted a man for murder in the Thanksgiving Day shooting death of a woman on Pleasant Street. Marcel Santos-Padgett, 31, of Leicester, was indicted in connection with the shooting death of Yueping Zhang, 34, who was found dead inside Angie’s Body Work Spa at 383 Pleasant St. on November 23. WORCESTER – The Worcester Arts Council (WAC) and the City of Worcester announced 53 grant awards for a total of $246,844 on Tuesday for arts and cultural programs in Worcester in 2024. WORCESTER – The Worcester Police Department announced on Monday the arrest of two men on drug distribution charges. Vice Squad officers were near Boylston Street on Friday, March 22, in response to complaints about drug transactions in the area. After believing they witnessed a transaction, officers stopped a vehicle. The driver, Juan Otero, 41, and Owen Alicea, 27, were removed from the vehicle. The search led to the discovery of what officers believed was both cocaine and fentanyl in Alicea’s possession. BOSTON – The Massachusetts State Senate passed a supplemental budget bill last week that makes new investments in the state’s emergency shelter system. The bill, S.2708, also provides funding for workforce training programs for recently arrived migrants and seeks to ensure the shelter system is effective in the long term. WORCESTER – The Rental Registry Program launched on March 9 by the City of Worcester requires the owner of any real estate rental unit, rented for any period, to register each unit. The program covers residential, commercial, and industrial properties, and vacant lots rented for any purpose. Other municipalities in Massachusetts have similar programs. WORCESTER – A Worcester County Grand Jury indicted two men on Friday in connection with a 1993 shooting in Fitchburg, including one who was previously charged in the case. The office of Worcester County District Attorney Joe Early Jr. announced Monday that Robert D’Lucca, 49, and Lawrence Calafell, 51, both of Gardner, were indicted for murder in the death of Deondray Atwood, 15 at the time of the shooting on Nov. 25, 1993.
