SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) – Home repairs are an inevitable part of homeownership, and often require significant cost and time. A new initiative, Housing Heroes, is changing that by taking the burden off the hands of Savannah residents.
"This is in partnership with the city of Savannah. They've had a modern home repair program that's existed for several years but needed just a little bit greater manpower," said Kendall McKnight, project manager at the United Way Coastal Empire. Video: Mayor Johnson: City making headway on fairgrounds development agreement
SAVANNAH, Ga. (WSAV) — A $2.5 million grant has been awarded by the state to the city of Savannah to make sanitary infrastructure improvements at the former fairgrounds property on Meding Street.
This is all a part of the city's initiative to transform the 66-acre land into quality affordable housing and is expected to be considered by the Savannah City Council on April 25.

(NEXSTAR) – New injectable drugs like Ozempic, Wegovy, Mounjaro and Zepbound have grown extremely popular with people seeking to lose weight. But is it too good to be true?
Calmara is an AI app that can be used to scan suspicious areas of skin to identify sexually transmitted infections, STIs, in 60 seconds, using science-backed technology.
The AI can look at sores, bumps and lesions to recognize several conditions without collecting personal data. The photos sent are deleted following the results, Calmara claims.

SPRINGFIELD, Ga. (WSAV) – A school bus driver was detained after a crash in front of South Effingham High School Thursday morning.
According to a press release from Dr. Yancy Ford, superintendent of the Effingham County School District, no students were injured.
No charges against the driver have been announced.

WAYNE COUNTY, Ga. (WSAV) — A 21-year-old Atlanta Gas Light employee is dead after a reported gas leak in Wayne County on April 15.
The Wayne County Sheriff's Office (WCSO), Jesup Fire Department and Wayne County EMS responded to a home on Savannah Highway last Monday after Brandon Butler of Jesup was found unresponsive.
Butler was taken to Wayne Memorial ER where he was pronounced dead.
