Israeli forces say they've reached Hamas defense lines in southern Gaza.
The fighting, which has been described as the fiercest so far, is now centered on the city of Khan Younis, the largest city in the south.
Israeli troops and Hamas militants are engaging in door-to-door gun battles. Israel Defense Forces posted a photo of the top Hamas commanders that they say have been killed so far. Members of the Washington Post Guild announced they are conducting a 24-hour walkout on Thursday, marking the union's first work stoppage in nearly 50 years.
The union has accused the newspaper of unfair labor practices. They said the company is "refusing to bargain in good faith and breaking the law."
The union says it has been negotiating with the newspaper for a contract for 18 months, arguing that salaries have not kept up with inflation. As part of the walkout, the union has told readers not to engage with the paper on Thursday.

RICHMOND, Va. -- Richmond police say they have arrested 4 suspects in a southside shooting. All four suspects are 21-years-old or younger.
Richmond police say Wednesday night at 11:48 p.m. officers attempted to apprehend the suspects in a parked car that they claim where known wanted individuals. "Officers approached the vehicle and attempted to detain the individuals when a male in the passenger seat of the vehicle fired shots at an officer," Richmond police explained in a press release.

Days before Major League Soccer holds its annual championship match, the league announced it is sanctioning a Los Angeles FC supporters group for alleged "serious misconduct" at last week's Western Conference semifinal.
LAFC supporter group 3252 will have its privileges suspended for Saturday's MLS Cup game versus Columbus and potentially all of the 2024 season, the league said. That means supporters from the group are unable to use drums or bring flags to matches.

The University of Nevada, Las Vegas campus turned to chaos Wednesday when a gunman opened fire as he roamed the halls, killing three people and critically wounding a fourth.
The gunman, who died in a shootout with police, was a 67-year-old career college professor who had recently unsuccessfully sought a job with UNLV, a law enforcement official told The Associated Press anonymously.
The shooter had connections to schools in other states, having previously worked for schools in Georgia and North Carolina, including East Carolina University, sources told CNN.

A grand jury has indicted six people for their alleged efforts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election in Nevada. The six people are accused of being fake electors for then-President Donald Trump.
The six people are accused of submitting false documents to Congress saying former Trump won the 2020 election in Nevada even though he did not. Prosecutors in Nevada said these actions were taken in December 2020, one month after the general election.

The Food and Drug Administration said it is delaying finalizing its final proposal that would ban the sale of menthol cigarettes and flavored cigars.
The debate over the ban has gone on for nearly two years, but the FDA has said the flavors are added to tobacco products to improve taste by reducing the harshness, bitterness and astringency. But recently, tobacco companies and convenience store groups have met with administration officials arguing against the ban, saying they would lose billions of dollars in sales and jobs.

Russian lawmakers on Thursday set the date of the country's 2024 presidential election for March 17, moving Vladimir Putin a step closer to a fifth term in office.
Members of the Federation Council, Russia's upper house of parliament, voted unanimously to approve a decree setting the date.
"In essence, this decision marks the start of the election campaign," said Valentina Matviyenko, speaker of the Federation Council. Russia's central election commission is to hold a meeting on the presidential campaign on Friday.

RICHMOND, Va. -- Faison Centers eight-figure campus upgrade has come to fruition.
The autism nonprofit recently opened a 12,000-square-foot, two-story building called Pioneer Hall, which serves as the organizations hub for its adult day services program connecting autistic adults with volunteer and social opportunities.
