A man recalls the terrifying moment he was beaten and robbed while working at his family’s taco truck in Long Beach — the second time they’ve now been targeted. City officials declared a public health emergency Thursday after a tuberculosis outbreak left one person dead and nine others hospitalized. Health officials said the outbreak stemmed from a group of people who stayed together at a Long Beach hotel room. As of April 29, 14 cases of tuberculosis (TB) are associated with this outbreak — nine of them required hospitalization and one case was fatal. The Long Beach Police Department is asking for the public's help in solving the murder of a 17-year-old girl last month. Briana Soto was fatally shot on March 26 around 8:30 p.m. near the intersection of 11th Street and Lewis Avenue, police said in the days following the attack. Long Beach police arrested two men on Friday that they say are responsible for the March death of a 54-year-old man. The Long Beach Fire Department initially responded to reports of a structure fire on the 5300 block of Pine Avenue around 6:30 a.m. on March 13. A hit-and-run driver crashed into a fire hydrant and power pole in Long Beach early Sunday morning in a rollover collision, according to authorities.
