Close to 20 people are now without a home on the Eastern Shore after their apartments were condemned on Thursday.
"Unsafe or unfit for habitation" is what it now says on the front doors of many homes at the Seabreeze apartments, a section 8 complex in Cape Charles.
"It's like you know I came home and everything is fine and then in two hours my whole world just collapsed and turned upside down," Nioaka Marshall, a resident, said. "I'm in limbo"

On Tuesday, Virginia Beach Police Chief Paul Neudigate presented crime data from 2023 to city leaders that showed property and violent crime overall dropped but some crimes like shootings still increased.
Last year, property crime dropped in the city of Virginia Beach, especially when it comes to items being stolen out of people's cars.
In 2022 there were over 3,000 reported thefts from cars and in 2023 there were just over 2,000.
One way Chief Paul Neudigate said they're reducing those numbers is by targeting crime hot spots.

Virginia Beach Police are looking for a man they believe followed an elderly woman from a store parking lot to her home just outside of Town Center and assaulted her.
Those living in the area said their community stays pretty quiet and were surprised to hear a woman was assaulted at her front door on Monday.
"When you told me that, that was a shocker," Stevon Remson, a neighbor, said.
News 3 did speak to the husband of the woman, but he didn't want to go on camera.
He said his wife is fine and was at a grocery store off of Virginia Beach Boulevard when this started.

Two bills are in the Virginia General Assembly to bring the City of Virginia Beach's charter up to date to a 10-1 voting system, something that already has changed in 2022.
Monday morning members of the Virginia NAACP and state leaders held a press conference in Richmond to encourage house delegates to pass HB 416.
"This charter change is only catching up to what the federal courts have already deemed and already ordered that the city of Virginia Beach have a 10-1 system," Sen. Aaron Rouse, said.
Rouse is the patron of the senate version of the bill to amend the city charter.

Two Virginia Beach parents are suing Virginia Beach Public Schools after they said their child with Down syndrome was assaulted and improperly restrained on a school bus last year.
"It's awful to know that's the environment that our children are being placed in to go to school each day," Antonio Mauro, the father of Giovanni Mauro, said.
Mauro said his nine-year-old son is a student at Virginia Beach Public Schools who is nonverbal and has Down syndrome.

Virginia State Police are still looking for a woman in connection to a crash in the Downtown Tunnel that killed another driver.
Dominique Chi'qura Goodwin is wanted for aggravated involuntary manslaughter, according to VSP. Goodwin was driving the wrong way on I-264 in a 2018 Volkswagen, and she hit a 2006 Chevrolet Equinox head-on.
Shelby Walker, the driver of the Chevy Equinox, died instantly, according to troopers.

There were a lot of smiles and tears on Monday at Naval Air Station Oceana after four squadrons returned home from a more than eight month long deployment on the U.S.S Gerald R. Ford.
"It feels amazing to be back," Commander Mike Tremel, of VFA-37 'Ragin Bulls', said. "Everyone was very excited in our formation, we finally saw Virginia Beach and we are just so excited to be home."
Four squadrons, the Ragin Bulls, Blacklions, Golden Warriors, and Tomcatters touched down back in Virginia Beach just before noon on Monday.

A trial is now underway for a man accused of killing four people inside of Portsmouth home during the summer of 2022.
Raymond Gore, 58, is facing several charges including four counts of aggravated murder.
During the first day of the trial on Tuesday, the prosecutor and defense both presented their opening statements to the jury.
Senior Assistant to the Commonwealth's Attorney, Haille Hogfeldt, told the jury what they are not going to see is a CSI case with fingerprints and DNA evidence.

The woman involved in Friday's officer involved shooting in Newport News said her former boyfriend wasn't trying to hurt anyone, instead wanted to take his own life.
Michelle Ellers said David Noteboom had been dealing with mental health problems for some time, and she just wanted him to get some help.
"He should have gotten help, and I feel like too many people with mental problems just don't get the chance to get help," Ellers said. "He wasn't trying to harm anybody but himself."
