Bojack Horseman Review

Been a while, huh? Sorry about that, life gets in the way. And frankly, we all get tired of life at some point, no matter who we are. Perhaps no greater cartoon exemplifies this concept than what I could only describe as the modern Shakespearean tragedy weaved into an animated format: Bojack Horseman. This show, over a six-season course, will rip your heart out and devour it before you, replace it, and repeat the process until you've learned to isolate yourself and forever dissuade the ideas of love and trust into your mind forever. Okay, maybe not that dramatically, but it gets pretty darn c ..read more

Carekiller Review

My latest review of Evan Jacobs' films- this movie once again delves into a more serious sphere beyond the comical hilarity of Death Toilets and productions similar to it. 'Carekiller' revolves around a non-verbal mentally challenged individual who ultimately turns against his assigned caregiver, murdering and ultimately cannibalizing the man while embarking on his first outing into the world in literal decades. Carekiller certainly contains interesting ideas and plot points that I would've liked to see followed up on, but I feel the overabundance of sequences that focus on a single element r ..read more

Oppenheimer Review

Christopher Nolan's movies are characterized by their grand, epic setpieces, their amazing dialogue, intense acting, and generally providing an experience bolstered by viewing it within a theater. Oppenheimer is no different, and probably one of Nolan's best, and I say this with absolute certainty. A stellar star-cast carries an already breathtaking nuclear narrative to the next level, as we're brought into the very mindset of Oppenheimer and how he rationalizes even an iota of the atrocity he constructed- giving mankind the tool of its own destruction in the process. Beyond that, Oppenheimer ..read more

Transformers: Rise of the Beasts Review

As it stands, the Transformers movie franchise has undergone some tumultuous ups and downs. Despite my guilty pleasures of the Michael Bay iteration of the franchise, even I can admit the fourth and fifth movies in his coterie nearly torpedoed the explosive legacy he established. Since then, Bay has been relegated to an executive producer and other creative voices have helmed the robot-action saga into new cinematic ventures, as we've seen with Travis Knight's 'Bumblebee', and now its long-awaited sequel, Transformers: Rise of the Beasts. Does the 2023 addition to Optimus Prime and Megatron's ..read more

Tears of Mu Music Video Review

Another Tears of Mu review rolls around, and I couldn't be more excited. These healing animations usually regale the stories of humanity losing its peaceful oneness, and falling into despair, violence, and infighting, yet always concluding with a hopeful message about mankind's future and ability to return to loving and caring about each other in a unitary state. Their previous Japanese animated film expressed the ideas of sorrow and loss, depicting the Tribes of Judea on their migration to Japan and the losses, struggles, and triumphs they shared together. This time, we overview a music vide ..read more

Insect Review

Once more, Director Evan Jacobs and his talented cast of voice actors, including Isaac Golub and Nik Hill, introduces another story of troubled adolescence. Unlike several of his other productions that are more centered around realistic, grounded school dramas however, Insect delves more into the science-fiction territory of Cool Summer, as the primary conflict here lies with protagonist Reggie coping with his parents' demise. What begins as a melodramatic divide between Reggie and his older brother Donald, whom seems tired of Reggie's constant nagging and desire for attention, culminates int ..read more

John Wick 4 Review (Spoilers)

Rarely exists a franchise nowadays that produces continuously good content worth the increasingly outrageous prices of movie tickets and theater food. John Wick, practically one of Lionsgate's only standout properties; has fulfilled this niche without doubt. An escalator of action films, each with grander setpieces, excellent action sequences, and greater stakes than the last, with JW4 being the narrative culmination of the trilogy preceding it. John Wick Four goes bigger and badder with every scene, everything from John engaging in a shootout against armored High Table soldiers to battling p ..read more

Anglerfish Review

Unknowable horror has often been the object of my fascination. Cosmic terror exists on a level elevated beyond just the predictable musings of a serial killer or cannibalistic tribe or spooky ghost. To recognize that an entity or power of magnificence so divine and colossal has, for just a moment, proceeded an incremental fraction of its infinitely malevolent attention unto you is an existentially terrifying concept. Calvin Welch's 'Anglerfish' plays with such an idea through the lens of a juxtaposing cultural shock involving EDM techno music, angelic beings descending from the heavens to iss ..read more

1985-1986 is the next installment in Director Evan Jacobs and his chronicling of Erol Jacobs (I wonder where that name came from...). Similarly to Cool Summer, 1985-1986 is a coming of age story revolving around a young boy developing through adolescence, navigating all the difficulties that come with it. Once more, the rudimentary animation style is just a medium for what I'd say was a captivating series of tales that kept me intrigued about Erol's life from beginning to end. Personally though, I still prefer Cool Summer over this film for having the supernatural, terrifying element of the G ..read more

James Cameron is a master of the Blockbuster. When you pay an overpriced ticket at the theaters, and even more for whatever snacks you bring with, Cameron is a Director that makes your money worth it by delivering grandiose spectacle. Whatever one may personally feel regarding the original Avatar movie, the undeniable truth is that it's utterly breathtaking for a completely computer-generated environment. The world of Pandora is a visually stunning setting that conveys the magnificent triumph of nature and the beauty of movie-making technology.. however, that's usually not the criticism which ..read more
