Saturday will mark the first day of the 43rd annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend and three Northeast Ohio firefighters will be honored at the event. The event will take place in Emmitsburg, Maryland and will pay tribute to 89 firefighters who died in the line of duty last year and 137 who died in years prior. The Violent Fugitive Task Force was serving an arrest warrant when they said the suspect started attacking officers. Community members in Lorain will be able to keep dry during Northeast Ohio weather storms. Councilwoman JoAnn Moon and the Lorain Metropolitan Housing Authority teamed up to give umbrellas to homeless shelters and nonprofit organizations in Lorain. U.S. Marshals shot and killed a Lorain man who attacked them while the Violent Fugitive Task Force force was serving an arrest warrant at his Lorain home on Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson for the federal agency. Marshals say the task force arrived at a home near the corner of West 21st Street and Beech Avenue around 8 a.m. to arrest 34-year-old Derrick Smith.
