Saturday will mark the first day of the 43rd annual National Fallen Firefighters Memorial Weekend and three Northeast Ohio firefighters will be honored at the event. The event will take place in Emmitsburg, Maryland and will pay tribute to 89 firefighters who died in the line of duty last year and 137 who died in years prior. Seventeen firefighters being honored this year are from Ohio, with three being from our area. U.S. Marshals shot and killed a Lorain man who attacked them while the Violent Fugitive Task Force force was serving an arrest warrant at his Lorain home on Thursday morning, according to a spokesperson for the federal agency.
