Perfect Burger Pairing? Is there a perfect wine pairing for the classic American hamburger? I think not, which is good given the frequency of burgers on our dinner tables. I look for easygoing reds with a nice, plush texture and enough body to pair with the meaty flavor and fat in the burger. It helps if the wine is affordable, too. Today we enjoyed a very nice Côtes du Rhône from Chateau de Saint Cosme which ticked all the boxes for “Goes Well with Burgers”. Typical Southern Rhone scene near Gigondas – wildflowers, vineyards, rocky hillsides Château de Saint Cosme in the Souther ..read more

Thomas Choong graduated in 2019 and is our first alumnus from the Armed Forces. How did he manage to fit in his wine studies alongside active service? Read on to find out more… What sparked your interest in wine? My father was my biggest inspiration and still is to this day. One evening in my earlytwenties I had dinner with him and a family friend, and they were blind tasting wines to test their knowledge. He managed to narrow it down to the correct grape, region, producer and even year. I couldn’t believe that a mere drink could be so expressive and complex. With curiosity, I a ..read more

Blois-Chambord. For anyone who had a very cool, worldly aunt growing up, this sounds like the name of a cheese she would bring back from France and eat paired with a wine that would sound equally exotic and foreign to an impressionable child. In actuality, Blois-Chambord is a mid-sized, 19th century regional train station. That’s […] The post Celebrating Sauvignon Blanc in the Loire appeared first on Vino Tasting Room ..read more

Looking for a spectacular lakefront view during your wine tour of the Finger Lakes? Check out Goose Watch Winery on Cayuga Lake. Cayuga Lake Beckons When you next travel to the Finger Lakes, and we hope it is soon, do not skip Cayuga Lake. Since we lived in the Toledo area for many years, we’d travel to New York coming from the west. That means we’d first hit Keuka Lake, then Seneca Lake, and the next major stop is Cayuga. Keep up with the latest. Follow us on Instagram! In fact, some visitors never make it past the first two. Shame on them! The Cayuga Lake Wine Trail has the distinction of b ..read more

Cabernet Sauvignon planted on quadrilateral split canopies in Delicato Family’s Clay Station Vineyard, located in the rocky clay “toehills” of Lodi’s Borden Ranch AVA Coming into week #6 of shelter-in-place living— why does it feel like 6 months? If we weren’t still living under the 6-ft. rule, I’d suggest we all gather in a circle and pat each other on the back for a job well done. We may have turned a corner (operative term, “may”), but as Charles Barkley once said, “sometimes that light at the end of the tunnel is a train.” But one thing about everything: We’ve found ourselves with time ..read more
