The S.C. Senate approved a bill Thursday that also passed through the House earlier this year. The bill bans health professionals from performing gender-transition surgeries, prescribing puberty blockers and overseeing hormone treatments for patients under 18. Under the bill, school officials would have to notify parents or guardians if a child wanted to use a name other than their legal one, or a nickname or pronouns that did not match their sex assigned at birth. The state has open primaries, meaning anyone can vote in either party primary, but voters can not cast ballots in both. Democrat and Republican parties will host primaries on June 11. The 150th Run for the Roses is tomorrow! The annual race is of course at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky with coverage starting at 2:30pm and the actual running at 6:57pm. Topping the early odds are two American horses born in Kentucky: Sierra Leone and Fierceness. The race is set to be historic and so are some of the prices at the track. A bridge in Dillon County is set to close for repairs. On Monday, the South Carolina Department of Transportation will close SC Highway 9 over Ropers Mill Branch. During the closure emergency bridge repairs will be conducted. SC-9 will be open to local traffic, but the bridge site will be closed off. Traffic will be detoured using Wix and Harlies Bridge Road. A church community is grieving after the death of a Myrtle Beach pastor’s wife. 30-year-old Mica Miller was found deceased at Lumber River State Park in Lumberton. It was said she appeared to have suffered a fatal gunshot to the head. She is survived by her husband John-Paul Miller, who is the pastor at Solid Rock Church. Miller’s obituary said she is from the Myrtle Beach area. At this time, an investigation has not revealed any information that indicates there is a danger to the community following her death.
