MODESTO — The Modesto Police Department released body camera footage Tuesday of a deadly shooting just hours after the family of the man involved announced legal action. The Modesto Police Department said Maurice Franklin Jr., 31, of Stockton, was taken into custody Saturday in connection to the death of Diasia Sease, 22, whose body was found with a gunshot wound in a room at the Best Western hotel on West Orangeburg Avenue on Wednesday, July 20. STANISLAUS COUNTY (CBS13) – Two people have now been arrested in connection to an armed carjacking that happened along Highway 99 near Modesto earlier in the year. California Highway Patrol says, early in the morning of May 10, they got a report of shots fired and a carjacking near the Tuolumne Boulevard exit. The Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office says the suspects stole a vehicle near Riverdale Park in southwest Modesto. After a short chase, the suspects ditched the stolen vehicle and attempted to run. MODESTO (CBS13) — A July 15 collision involving a tractor and a car ended with one person dying and another badly wounded. According to the California Highway Patrol, at around 10:24 a.m., California Highway Patrol got a call about a traffic collision at the Stuhr Road and Eastin Road intersection. When emergency crews arrived on the scene, they found two damaged vehicles. 22-year-old Rachel Norton, the driver of one of the vehicles, a 2015 Toyota Sedan, was taken by an air ambulance to Doctor’s Medical Center with major injuries.
