DENVER (CBS4) – A weather change is on the way to Colorado in the form of a cool front. It will drop temperatures about 10 degrees and kick off scattered showers and thunderstorms by Thursday. Ahead of the front it will be a very warm to hot around the state on Wednesday with widespread 80s and 90s. DENVER (CBS4) – As the number of dead made the discovery of an abandoned tractor trailer packed with migrants the worst such tragedy in U.S. history, discussion again rose about the dangers of smuggling and life in the shadows of illegal immigration. “You’re not supposed to open up a truck and see stacks of bodies in there,” said San Antonio fire chief Charles Hood. FORT COLLINS, Colo. (CBS4) – Colorado State University is now on the leading front of research universities after obtaining a 3.5 megawatt gas turbine donation. The turbine, donated by Solar Turbines, is the largest research turbine of it’s type on any campus in the United States and is being prepared for installation at CSU’s Powerhouse campus in northern Fort Collins. DENVER (CBS4) – Most Colorado voters chose Heidi Ganahl over Greg Lopez to face Democratic incumbent Gov. Jared Polis in the November general election. Ganahl secured more than 53% of the vote. Ganahl recently sat down with CBS4 Political Specialist Shaun Boyd. She said she plans to reign in spending and – not just lower taxes – but eliminate the state income tax altogether. DENVER (CBS4) – A majority of Colorado voters chose Pam Anderson to face incumbent Jena Griswold in the race for Secretary of State in the November general election, the AP says. Anderson beat Tina Peters, the embattled County Clerk from Mesa County. Anderson took 44.7% of the votes; Mike O’Donnell took 28.8%; and Peters secured 26.5%. YELLOWSTONE NATIONAL PARK, Wyo. (CBS4) – A 34-year-old man from Colorado Springs suffered injuries after a bison gored him at Yellowstone National Park. The National Park Service says he was walking with his family on a boardwalk near Giant Geyser at Old Faithful on June 27. (credit: Cavan/Getty Images) A small herd of bison was nearby. ENGLEWOOD, Colo. (CBS4) — For much of the morning on Tuesday, the smell of smoke permeated Denver. A combination of weather and a fire that ignited at an Englewood waste management facility were responsible for the smell. Denver Fire Department Public Information Officer Greg Pixley told CBS4’s Mekialaya White the deep-seated fire was burning in hundreds of thousands of pounds of trash.
