LONDON (AP) — Shares in U.K.-based mining giant Anglo American have surged after it received a 31 billion-pound ($39 billion) takeover bid from rival BHP Billiton. The deal would create the world’s biggest copper miner, with around 10% of global output. Anglo American’s share price closed up 16% in London on Thursday after revealing that BHP had put forward the “unsolicited” and “highly conditional” takeover proposal. BHP says the deal would boost its presence in the copper market, which is seeing demand soar amid the shift toward clean energy. Copper is sought af ..read more

They heard the rumors once again that U.S. authorities were going to receive them there.

The city’s health department posted its proposed rule language last week. A public hearing is scheduled for late May. City officials and Democratic Mayor Eric Adams approved the law last year. WASHINGTON (AP) — TikTok is gearing up for a legal fight against a U.S. law that would force the social media platform to break ties with its China-based parent company or face a ban. A battle in the courts will almost certainly be backed by Chinese authorities as the bitter U.S.-China rivalry threatens the future of a wildly popular way for young Americans to connect online. Beijing has signaled TikTok should fight what it has called a “robbers” act by U.S. lawmakers “to snatch from others all the good things that they have.” But should a lega ..read more

LONDON (AP) — Forty years and 50 million record sales after the Pet Shop Boys rose to fame with “West End Girls,” the iconic British duo is releasing a new album. “Nonetheless” is their 15th studio album. They told The Associated Press that the time period was surprisingly productive and free of pressure other than trying not to catch the virus. Their key to staying relevant?
