SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — If it feels like TikTok has been around forever, that's probably because it has, at least if you're measuring via internet time. What's now in question is whether it will be around much longer and, if so, in what form? Starting in 2017, when the Chinese social video app merged with its competitor Musical.ly, TikTok has grown from a niche teen app into a global trendsetter. While, of course, also emerging as a potential national security threat, according to U.S. officials. On Wednesday, President Joe Biden signed legislation requiring TikTok parent ByteDance to sell t ..read more

(NEXSTAR) – “Forever chemicals” can be found in everyday items, from non-stick cookware to waterproof mascara to tap water. But concern has grown in recent years over their prevalence in the environment, as well as their potential health effects. These synthetic chemicals, also known as PFAS (or perfluoroalkyl and polyfluoroalkyl substances), have been used to make consumer products since about the 1950s. Companies like 3M, DuPont, Chemours and others manufactured PFAS because they were incredibly useful. They helped eggs slide across non-stick frying pans, ensured that firefighting foam suffo ..read more

PORTLAND, Ore. (KOIN) — Birders are crowing over an extremely rare bird sighting in Oregon last week. It posed for me for a minute or two, and then it flew up to the rocks. It stayed there for another moment or so ..read more

How Trump's second term could be different from his first
KTSM 9 News
by Rebecca Beitsch, Brett Samuels, The Hill

Former President Trump’s pursuit of a second term in the White House could lead to an administration stocked with loyalists who are laser-focused on implementing Trump’s agenda and are willing to cater to his whims. Critics, including some who have worked closely with Trump, have expressed concerns that a second Trump administration would have fewer officials willing to act as guardrails and would enable the former president to act more impulsively, in part because of his lame duck status.  “That is one of my biggest concerns about a second Trump administration, is there would be no guard ..read more

KTSM 9 News
by Jeremy Tanner

(NEXSTAR) – Americans have long been known for embracing their job – working long hours, never-ending work communication and relatively little vacation time – to an extent that might seem baffling to workers from other countries. Now, a recent study has shown that our so-called "burnout culture" may have real physical, emotional and mental consequences as early as the age of 50. NYU Silver School of Social Work professor Wen-Jui Han looked at the health outcomes of over 7,000 people from the age of 22 to 50, data recorded as part of the National Longitudinal Survey of Youth (1979). (NEXSTAR) – It's that time of year again. Election season is well underway, as local, state and big-time politicians clamor for your vote in the primaries and come November. Lately, that means less door knocking and more text messages. Candidates and causes you didn't even know had your phone number may be blowing up your phone asking for your vote or your money. Campaign phone calls and text messages are exempt from the federal Do Not Call list, so getting on the registry won't help you turn down the noise. (However, political campaigns do need to follow certain FCC restrictions when reaching ..read more

NEW YORK (AP) — From New York to California, students protesting the Israel-Hamas war slept in tents at college campuses, as some universities moved to shut down encampments and arrested dozens of demonstrators. With the death toll mounting in the war in Gaza, protesters nationwide are demanding schools cut financial ties to Israel and divest from companies they say enable the conflict.
