Philippine ferry fire kills 31 people; at least 7 missing

A fire broke out on a ferry in the southern Philippines and raged overnight for eight hours, killing at least 31 of the approximately 250 passengers and crew, officials said Thursday. Many of the more than 200 people who survived the blaze jumped off the MV Lady Mary Joy 3 and were rescued from the dark sea by the coast guard, navy, a nearby ferry and local fishermen, said Gov. A founding member of the American boy band LFO, Brian Brizz Gillis, has died at 47 years old.  The group was formed in New Bedford, Massachusetts in 1995 and released their debut self-titled album in 1999 with the hit song "Summer Girls" pushing the group into heavy rotation on music video channels like MTV, and on radio.  The group, whose name stands for "Lyte Funkie Ones," went on to achieve modest success for a time with members Brad Fischetti, Rich Cronin and Gillis.  Cronin later died in 2010 from leukemia in his mid-thirties.  Fischetti wrote in an Inst ..read more

The Metro Nashville Police Department has released recordings from three calls made to 911 after a shooter opened fire at The Covenant School on Monday. Ralphie, the French bulldog who earned a reputation for being a "demon," has a new owner.  Thousands of people have been following Ralphie's journey after the Niagra SPCA posted on Facebook about his behavioral problems.  "Ralphie is a terror in a somewhat small package," the organization posted in January.  The shelter believes Ralphie's first owner didn't set boundaries, leading him to believe he was the boss.
