Indianapolis pursuing major league soccer team
INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — Thursday’s announcement that Indianapolis is pursuing a Major League Soccer team has sparked a very intense conversation about the sport’s future in the city.
Mayor Joe Hogsett said Thursday that he met with Major League Soccer Commissioner Don Garber earlier this week about brining an MLS franchise to the Circle City, adding that an ownership groups is already in place.

RAFAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — A premature Palestinian infant, rescued from her mother’s womb shortly after the woman was killed in an Israeli airstrike, has died, her uncle said Friday.
Sabreen Jouda died in a Gaza hospital on Thursday after her health deteriorated and medical teams were unable to save her, said her uncle, Rami al-Sheikh.
Sabreen’s home in the southern Gaza city of Rafah was hit by an Israeli airstrike shortly before midnight Saturday. Her parents and 4-year-old sister were killed.

INDIANAPOLIS (MIRROR INDY) — A group of local teens has organized a community peace walk to commemorate National Youth Violence Prevention Week.
The walk will begin at 2 p.m. April 27 at the Landmark for Peace Memorial in Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Park.
The event is the result of a collaboration between several local violence prevention organizations, including Hoosiers Concerned about Gun Violence, Marion County Youth Violence Prevention Coalition and the Mayor’s Youth Leadership Council.

INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — The Circle City could be adding another professional sports team to its list of successful franchises, according to an announcement Thursday from Indianapolis Mayor Joe Hogsett.
Indianapolis is pursuing a Major League Soccer expansion team in a city that already houses successful NFL, NBA and WNBA franchises.
The MLS has added several franchises over the last few years, eyeing continued growth throughout the United States and Canada.
The league has added 11 teams over the last decade, with another forming in 2025.

33 people arrested at protest on IU campus – News 8 at 10
BLOOMINGTON, Ind. (WISH) — At least 33 people were arrested during a Thursday rally at Indiana University’s Dunn Meadow in support of Palestine, law enforcement agencies tell News 8.
The people were arrested for having structures, including tents, at their protest, which violates an IU policy.
The protest started Thursday morning in Dunn Meadow, park across the street from Chabad House of Bloomington, a resource for Jewish people on the campus.

Man dead after police shooting in Valparaiso
VALPARAISO, Ind. (WISH) — Indiana State Police on Thursday are investigating a fatal police shooting in Valparaiso, according to a news release.
On Thursday, officers were dispatched to the area of Fairgrounds Park for a suspicious person that was reported to be displaying a handgun. INDIANAPOLIS (WISH) — A member of the Indianapolis Public Library Board of Trustees is resigning from their position.
Board Member Stephen Lane resigned before a vote Thursday by the Indianapolis Public School Board that could have removed him.
Lane had been on the Indianapolis Public Library Board for a year and four months.
