Tyler the Creator, The Killers and Sturgill Simpson are among the headliners for this year’s Outside Lands Music and Arts Festival in San Francisco, festival organizers announced Tuesday. The singer Post Malone will perform a special country set during the three-day festival taking place Aug. 9-11 in Golden Gate Park. The U.S. Justice Department announced a $138.7 million settlement Tuesday with more than 100 people who accused the FBI of grossly mishandling allegations of sexual assault against Larry Nassar in 2015 and 2016, a critical time gap that allowed the sports doctor to continue to prey on victims before his arrest. When combined with other settlements, $1 billion now has been set aside by various organizations to compensate hundreds of women who said Nassar assaulted them under the guise of treatment for sports injuries. California will open its first new state park in a decade this summer, Gov. Gavin Newsom and state officials announced Monday, as the state sets targets for cutting planet-warming emissions on natural lands. The 1,600-acre Dos Rios tract in the state’s crop-rich Central Valley is set to open June 12 as California’s 281st state park. Located near the confluence of the Tuolumne and San Joaquin rivers, it is surrounded by vast almond orchards and dairy pastures. A Senate vote Tuesday includes a proposed nationwide ban on TikTok, citing national security concerns, and a lot of content creators are worried about their livelihood. TikTok has 170 million American users and tracks how we consume content, what devices we use, how long we watch posts and what kind of posts we like to feed its algorithm. Protests against the Israel-Hamas war are growing on college campuses across the country and here in California, including at UC Berkeley, where students have set up several tents outside Sproul Hall. The protesters are asking UC Berkeley to divest itself from companies that build weapons used by Israel against the Palestinian people living in the Gaza strip. The Federal Trade Commission sued to block Tapestry, Inc.’s $8.5 billion acquisition of Capri Holdings Ltd., saying that the deal would eliminate direct head-to-head competition between the fashion companies’ brands like Coach and Michael Kors in the so-called affordable luxury handbag arena. The agency also said Monday that the deal, announced in August 2023, threatens to eliminate the incentive for the two companies to vie for employees and could depress employees’ wages and workplace benefits.
