    25 YEARS AGO   Dec.    Monroe County High School was the scene of a “Judgment Day” program that concentrated on what could  happen when you drink and drive.  Six students portrayed teenagers who were arrested for a  DUI and had to go to court. Three different court cases were used.. Those students in the skits were Samantha Graves, Allison Carter, Russ Clemens, Shane Riley, and Jonathan Hamilton.     25 YEARS AGO   DEC. 3, 1998    Kentucky Apparel LLP gave notice to the employees in Fountain Run and Summershade that those plants will be closing on January 31, 1999. The employees were notified that they would be losing their jobs, according to Dan Waggner, president of the company. The plant closings are due to the effect  NAFTA is having on the pricing and the availability of products for the domestic plants. 25 Years ago- July 23, 1998 Josh James won the State Dairy Production Placement Contest at the State FFA Convention.  He will participate in the nationals in the fall.  He is the son of Bro. Steve and Debbie James.   25 YEARS AGO- JULY 16, 1998 The Monroe County Medical Center will have an opening house for their new Speciality Clinic wing of the hospital.  The wing has been under construction since spring. The hospital has been having specialty clinics for cardiology and pulmonary for several years and has been successful. They will now be able to include orthopedics, urology, ophthalmology, prenatal, and surgery. 50  YEARS AGO-  JUNE 28, 1973 A serious electrical storm did much damage across the county this past week. Sulphur Lick resident,  Charles Geralds, had a hay barn burned that started  from a lightning strike,  Paul Wheat of Mud Lick lost seven registered Angus cows,  Ernest Bushong, also  of Mud Lick lost several head of cattle and a registered Hereford bull in the Mud Lick Community and Hurla Netherton of Beautiful Home lost ten of dairy cows. 50 years ago- June 21,1973 Andrew Tooley and Wayne Anderson will spend one week at Troopers Island on Dale Hollow Lake. Don Thompson scored the highest score at the Dairy Judging Contest in Bowling Green. The contest was judging seven classes of dairy cows.  He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Jess Thompson.  Six other Monroe County boys won blue ribbons at the contest–Anthony Myatt, Eugene Myatt, Thomas Geralds, Frank Copass, Charles Netherton and Deno Anderson.  Anthony High attended the Livestocking Judging Contest and received a blue ribbon. 25 years ago- June 11, 1998 Monroe County is leading the state in the amount of money per capita for the American Cancer Society through Relay for Life events.  Shelley Polston, this year’s chair for the event, reported that $88526.25 was raised this year which figures to $7.55 /per person and the closest to that figure is Trigg County with $6.22/ per person.
