FUN FACT: The hottest day on record for the month of April was 47 years ago today. On April 19, 1976, the high temperature was an unbelievable 98! There was actually a pretty warm stretch that month with highs 80° or warmer from April 16 through the 20th. JOHNSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Susan Gazerro said she was driving along a state road in Johnston when she hit a major pothole. "It honestly sounded like a bomb went off it was so loud," she said. What Gazerro didn't expect was that she would have to cover majority of the cost to repair her car. She soon learned the state only covers up to $300 when a pothole claim is filed. "I think it is unfair for myself or anybody else or an insurance company to have to pay," Gazerro said. "When I pay my tax dollars, I don't expect to pay $1,000 if I hit a pothole." PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Detectives have arrested a 53-year-old man accused of strangling a woman behind a Providence middle school nearly three decades ago. Kevin Williams has been charged with first-degree murder in connection with the death of 41-year-old Kathleen O'Dowd Boleman. Williams is accused of strangling Boleman behind Roger Williams Middle School back in March 1999. TIVERTON, R.I. WPRI) — The Fall River man accused of vandalizing a Tiverton gas station last week faced a judge again Thursday. Jadon West, 19, is accused of severely damaging six gas pumps at American Dream Gas on April 10. West was reportedly seen on surveillance footage smashing the screens on the gas pumps with a rock. West was taken into custody for questioning after officers found him sleeping on a nearby bench. He eventually confessed and was charged with three counts of vandalism, as well as disorderly conduct. The president of East Providence's Trinity Brotherhood Club told 12 News he''s had's had no choice but to cancel the club's annual Holy Ghost Feast because of the ongoing Washington Bridge debacle. Medical transport driver facing deportation will stand trial for deadly crash

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — The medical transport driver accused of causing a deadly crash nearly three years ago is back behind bars in Rhode Island, 12 News has learned. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) recently approved Dauda Elegushi's transfer from federal to state custody as he awaits trial for the crash that killed 77-year-old Lina Russo. CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — Leigh Jones remembers the last time she spoke with her son Willie Washington Jr. "We spoke on the phone for a minute and 46 seconds," Jones said. "I didn't even know he was sick." Jones said three days later, her son was dead. WOONSOCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — Two Coventry men are accused of running an illegal chop shop, which investigators reportedly discovered as a result of a separate narcotics investigation in 2022. Court documents obtained by Target 12 state that Providence police conducted a "large-scale narcotics investigation involving multiple Rhode Island jurisdictions" in 2022 and 2023.
