A renowned legal scholar, an elite artist, a respected preservationist, a dedicated servant-leader and an early-day entrepreneur make up the 2024 class of the Chickasaw Hall of Fame. Bill Wright, former Superintendent of Chickasaw National Recreation Area is among this year’s honorees. The 2024 Chickasaw Hall of Fame induction ceremony will be 6 p.m., Thursday, April 25, at the Ataloa Theatre located on the East Central University campus, Ada. Buckaloo Qualifies for Women’s Junior Nationals

By Jeff Mapes For the second straight year, Cayden Buckaloo has earned her way to the U.S. Marine Corps Women’s Junior Nationals to be held later this summer in Fargo, ND. The Davis junior placed third among seven grapplers in freestyle at the Fargo-Qualifier held April 20 at Tulsa Union High School. Buckaloo won the Grecko division and took second in freestyle at the same tournament a year ago. This weekend she went 4-1 with every match against an opponent from Class 6A. Davis Golf Teams Advance to Regionals

By Jeff Mapes Davis’s boys’ golf team played in a 36-hole, two-course tournament in Ardmore on April 15. They, along with the Lady Wolves then placed high enough in their respective Qualifiers to advance to the Class 3A Regionals. The Wolves played 18 holes each at Lakeview and Dornick Hills and finished 18th in the tourney out of 24 teams with 776. Brendyn Pierce tied for 12th at 154. The seniors leave the field with impressive accomplishments on and off the field. By Jeff Mapes Davis baseball extended its win streak to five games last week with back-to-back wins over Meeker and Wynnewood. Unfortunately, that came to a halt in a loss to Lone Grove. Tracksters Second at Conference Meet Welcomed 29 Schools to Davis

By Jeff Mapes The Davis track teams both took second at the Quad County Conference Meet held April 17 at Wynnewood. Both squads then hosted a meet April 19 at the Davis Track Field that featured 29 schools. Six of the seven teams in the league were represented at the inaugural event. Only Wayne did not compete. The Lady Wolves racked up nearly 140 points behind champion Lexington. The 4X100 relay team (Shelby Courtney, Kensley Barnes, Lily Hefley and Tylisha McDonald) won first in 52.59. By Jeff Mapes The Davis slow-pitch softball team lost at Sulphur on April 15 then suffered season-ending losses to Lexington and Tishomingo at the Class 4A District Tournament on April 18. Davis dropped its final six games and finished with a record of 6-14. “Probably wasn’t the best season. Reader Zone is a web-based reading program and app, created for educators, teachers, and libraries to gain the reading data they need to help their readers progress and promote literacy within the community. By Jeff Mapes Track is now in full stride as both Davis teams competed at Alex on April 12. Up against 20-plus schools, the Lady Wolves registered 75 points while the Wolves recorded 28. Kensley Barnes captured her third straight first-place finish in the 300-meter hurdles. Her time of 49.09 seconds is the best so far, this young season. Cassidy Parsons took second in the pole vault. The Davis First Grade will present their musical “Pajama Party” on Thursday, in the Dorothy Jameson Performing Arts Center with shows at 9 a.m. and 1 p.m. The morning show is for the Elementary and the afternoon show is for the public. Anyone is welcome to come to the morning show but the Pre-K through fourth Grades will have priority seating at the front.
