Summit County golf courses gear up for summer season

Although it may seem like Summit County’s golf courses were covered deep in snow not that long ago, the start of the season is closer than expected. According to Keystone Resort’s summer operation plans, Keystone’s River Course is expected to be the first golf course in the county to open for the season on Friday, May 10. The Keystone Ranch Course alongside the Breckenridge Golf Club will then tentatively open a week later, on May 17. The Summit County Animal Control and Shelter saw a historically high number of pet surrenders in 2023, and staff say the trend is persisting in 2024. A Breckenridge local is teaming up with the shelter and other local nonprofits to combat the problem. In 2023, the Summit County Animal Shelter recorded 157 pet abandonments. Summit County Sheriff’s Office and Dillon Police Officers are investigating a stabbing that occurred Friday, May 3 at approximately 9:45 p.m. in Dillon Valley. According to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office, deputies and Dillon Police Department officers discovered multiple adult males had been engaged in an altercation after responding to a reported assault. During the altercation, one male sustained non-life threatening injuries from a stabbing. Breckenridge and Blue River approach limit on residential development, as outlined by Upper Blue Basin master plan

Summit County is not too far from reaching the limit on new residential development in towns and unincorporated areas in the Upper Blue Basin. Breckenridge is currently at 93% of its residential build out — or essentially the amount of residential units the area can hold, as determined by locals officials — according to town staff. Up to 4 inches of snow could accumulate by Saturday afternoon across northwest Colorado, according to a hazardous weather outlook issued by the National Weather Service. The snowfall outlook is forecast for elevations above 8,000 feet, and the Park Range is most likely to see the highest snow totals. Summit County Coroner’s Office identifies man found dead near Summit Cove as investigation continues

The Summit County Coroner’s Office has identified the individual who was found dead in a field west of the Summit Cove neighborhood late last month. Fernando Ruiz Hernandez, 27, of Dillon, was the man whose body was found Sunday night, April 27, Summit County Coroner Amber Flenniken said in an email. The cause and manner of death are pending the results of an autopsy. Hernandez’s body was discovered by a local hiker near a neighborhood trail, according to the Summit County Sheriff’s Office.
