BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Maryland’s five sportsbooks handled more than $19 million in bets in June, paying out nearly $18 million in prizes to bettors, the Maryland Lottery and Gaming Commission announced Monday. The result was that the five sportsbooks raked in a combined $1.3 million from last month’s wagers. Minus payouts and other amounts, that worked out to more than $1.2 million that was subject to a 15% tax by the state. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — Thiru Vignarajah is seeking to un-seat Marilyn Mosby as Baltimore City State’s Attorney. Maryland’s former Deputy Attorney General previously headed the Baltimore City State’s Attorney’s Office’s Major Investigation Unit. Vignarajah unveiled a radio ad Tuesday touting the endorsement of Gov. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A 19-year-old man died a day after he was shot over in West Baltimore the weekend, police said. Officers responded at 3:23 p.m. Saturday to the 600 block of Mosher Street, where they found the victim, identified as Terrontae Stancil. Stancil was pronounced dead Sunday afternoon at Shock Trauma, and homicide detectives are now investigating, police said. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A severe storm Tuesday afternoon left uprooted trees, downed powerlines, power outages, and damaged homes in its wake in Bowie. The storm spawned tornado warnings for Prince George’s and Anne Arundel County, and the National Weather Service said Bowie could have been hit around 5:30 p.m. by a tornado. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A judge found Tuesday that Baltimore City State’s Attorney Marilyn Mosby cannot afford expert witnesses in the federal criminal case against her, and ruled the court would help cover the cost of her defense. Mosby requested assistance through the Criminal Justice Act, which allows court funding to defendants who are found to be “financially unable to obtain expert services necessary for an adequate defense,” according to the order. BALTIMORE (WJZ) — A 63-year-old woman died in a hit-and-run boating crash on Sunday on the Magothy River, police said Tuesday. Maryland Natural Resources Police officers responded at 10 p.m. to the river in Anne Arundel County for the crash. Investigators believe a white center console vessel, about 25-feet-long, struck a Wellcraft boat at the Magothy River 6-knot entrance channel, and after hitting the boat, the white boat’s operator fled the scene.
