The former Weymouth, Massachusetts, police officer accused of punching a man while he was in custody is due in court Tuesday. Justin Chappell resigned from the Weymouth Police Department after being notified he was facing termination for the incident, which occurred on July 2, 2022. Chappell is accused of punching the man about 13 times “without legal justification” during an arrest. Bodycam footage of the incident was released last year. Aidan Kearney, the controversial blogger known as “Turtleboy,” is expected in court Tuesday for a pre-trial hearing. Kearney is facing charges in connection with the Karen Read murder case. He’s been covering the case, which has garnered extensive attention, and has led prosecutors to charge him with witness intimidation. He’s pleaded not guilty. According to AAA Northeast, gas in Massachusetts is up 19 cents a gallon over the last week. Compared to one month ago, the average price for a gallon of regular unleaded gas is up 27 cents. Harvard University’s leading Palestinian advocacy group says it has been suspended as protests over Israel’s war in Gaza rock college campuses. The Harvard Undergraduate Palestine Solidarity Committee announced the suspension on social media Monday. A university spokesperson confirmed to The Boston Globe that Harvard College had suspended the group. Climate change protesters gathered in Boston for Earth Day, marching in an event that shut down traffic on the Moakley Bridge in South Boston Monday afternoon. Climate activist group Extinction Rebellion organized the event, which they called Boston’s Earth Day party. Earlier in the afternoon, the group had gathered at Christopher Columbus Waterfront Park. Gov. Maura Healey has joined a chorus of voices pushing back against an idea floated by the secretary for the Massachusetts Department of Transportation about adding tolls at the state’s borders. Early January through April, the sky is pretty quiet from any meteor showers.  Now, that changes as we have our annual Lyrid meteor shower kicking off a bunch of meteor shower events this year. This shower is caused by debris from a passing comet named Comet Thatcher that comes around every year. But don’t get too excited.
