KILL DEVIL HILLS, N.C. (WAVY) - The Kill Devil Hills Fire Department responded to a house fire near North Croatan Highway Monday evening. According to officials, crews responded to the 2000 block of Smithfield Street at 5:14 p.m. for reports of a structure fire. DAVIDSON COUNTY, N.C. (WGHP) — A woman has been charged after allegedly trying to abduct two children. The Davidson County Sheriff's Office says that on Saturday they got a call about a child abduction. They spoke with a man who said that Jennifer Lynn Pence, 54, had come to his home and taken his 11-year-old son. Pence "also attempted to take his 4-year-old daughter against his will." MANTEO, N.C. (WAVY) -- Westbound lanes of Washington Baum (Pirate's Cove) Bridge on U.S. 64 will reopen to traffic on Friday. The lanes were closed last September when work began on a $21.3 million bridge rehabilitation project to improve rideability and extend the bridge's lifespan. During the closure, construction crews resurfaced the bridge's deck to repair its bumpy surface. All four lanes of the bridge will remain open until Sept. 16, when resurfacing begins in the eastbound lanes. In a press release from II Marine Expeditionary Force at Camp Lejeune, officials said the Marine who died was Sgt. Colin Arslanbas. Officials said he died just after 11 p.m. on Thursday.
