HARRISBURG, Pa, (WHTM)- Should local police departments be able to catch speeders using radar?
Under Pennsylvania law, only state police can use radar devices but that would change under House Bill 606. The bill would allow local police to use radar once a municipality passes an ordinance authorizing it.
According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, fatalities in speeding-related crashes increase by 5% from 2020 to 2021.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Governor Tom Wolf announced on Thursday, June 9 that he will be investing an additional $8.25 million in ByHeart, which is the nation's newest FDA-registered baby formula manufacturer and is also located in Pennsylvania.
“I promised to do everything I can to support Pennsylvania families, this $8.25 million investment does just that by allowing ByHeart to continue scaling up their business and nourishing more babies,” Governor Wolf said. “What ByHeart is doing is amazing and innovative, I’m proud to invest in them and that they chose Pennsylvania as home.”

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - Pennsylvania State Representative Russ Diamond (R-Lebanon) announced he was recently diagnosed with a treatable form of prostate cancer.
Diamond says the cancer was detected early and his doctors made the diagnosis after checkups and screenings revealed abnormalities.
Diamond is scheduled to undergo a procedure on Thursday, June 9, and will both work and vote remotely.

PENNSYLVANIA (WHTM) -- The Pennsylvania Breast Cancer Coalition (PBCC) President Pat Halpin-Murphy and Senate Majority Leader Kim Ward announced on Wednesday, June 8 that a five-part animation series will be released for educating state residents on the importance of early detection of breast cancer.
The first installment of the series was released on Wednesday. It served as a reminder for all Pennsylvania women to schedule mammograms that could save their lives. In the United States, one in every eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer.

Harrisburg, PA – Acting Secretary of State Leigh M. Chapman announced today the mandatory statewide recount confirmed Mehmet Oz as the winner of the U.S. Senate Republican race.
Oz received 419,999 votes, 951 more than the second-place finisher, David McCormick, whose vote total was 419,048. McCormick conceded to Oz last Friday ahead of the recount being completed.
“It’s now clear to me with the recount now largely complete that we have a nominee,” McCormick said at a campaign party at a Pittsburgh hotel.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (WHTM) - The Pennsylvania State Senate has approved to bills that lawmakers say will expand training opportunities for cosmetology and barber students.
Senate Bills 1196 and 1197 amend the Barbers’ License Law and the Cosmetology Law, respectively, to allow enrolled students to earn course credit and gain experience working in local salons and barber shops.
To qualify, the student must be supervised by a licensed professional and inform the client they are a student.

HARRISBURG, Pa. (AP) — The Pennsylvania House voted unanimously on Wednesday to erase the word “homosexuality” from the definition of prohibited sexual acts in the state Crimes Code.
The 198-0 vote was on a bill to cleans up language that supporters said does not belong there because homosexuality is not a crime.
Under “prostitution,” state law currently defines sexual activity so that it “includes homosexual and other deviate sexual relations.”
