This site is a perfect environment to connect with articles I’ve written on Medium, while linking to links to interesting articles spotted on that site. Today, I’ll touch on the recession – that’s here already or on its way. We’ve all got to be ready for it. It’s inevitable. That’s the way that cycles work. The three articles touch on work, money and “self” perspective, and how you can prepare in each of these areas for a recession. Links to the articles are below: Recession-Proof Your Life – Part 1 Recession-Proof Your Life – Part 2 Recession-Proof Your Life – Part 3 If you want to get acce ..read more

19 Facts You Need to Know About the CFA

So you’re thinking about getting the Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) designation, a qualification that is sometimes viewed as one of the world’s toughest tests. Before you dive in, here are some interesting facts to know about the CFA: Covid-19 was bad for the CFA. The pandemic caused havoc on the exams. The pass rate for the Level I exam over the past decade has averaged around 41%. But the February 2022 Level I exam saw just 36% of test-takers pass. That was a step up, however, from the May 2021 figure of 25%, which was the lowest since testing began in 1963 and down from 44% for the Feb ..read more

Transitory Retirement, Permanent Inflation

It looks like “transitory retirement” has come to replace the idea of “transitory inflation“. For months, the Federal Reserve Bank in the US told us that the sharp pick-up in prices was a transitory phenomenon. Everything was going to return to normal in due course (whatever “normal” was going to look like). The Fed’s 2% inflation target, as measured by the consumer price index, was still viable without the need for additional policy intervention. That thinking has been well and truly been put to bed. Inflation is here. And it’s not going to go away anytime soon of its own volition. The recent ..read more

The Great Resignation – Are You Ready?

Everyone’s talking about the “Great Resignation”, which is another unintended consequence of the pandemic. Millions are leaving their jobs. So many reasons have been touted: because of health concerns, a re-evaluation of life priorities, a realization that personal financial situations are healthier than previously assumed, and so on. But as exciting as the initial middle-finger response to “the Man” might be for many, it’s not at all as straightforward as that. Surviving the crisis will likely take more than that. So what does it all mean and how will that playout for the job market? Here’s a ..read more

We’ve all been here before. New Year, New You. At least, that’s how you sell it to yourself. But will it be different this time? Will it? Does it need to be? Do you need resolutions? Do they even matter? You decide. The post New Year, New You? appeared first on Finance Jobs Hunt ..read more

Your Employer is Not Your Family

Don’t get sucked in by the mission statement. Ignore the free lunches, the happy hour drinks, the fruit made available every Monday morning. The “shared vision” nonsense. Your employer is your employer. Your employer is not your family. Or your friend. They don’t have friends, they have interests. If the economics work, great, you’re in. When it doesn’t…Time to look elsewhere It’s important to keep that in mind when you look at your job and career. You may love what you do. Your company may love you. Or at least that’s how you read the kind words from your boss. Or the metaphorical or actual p ..read more

How to Become a Private Banker

There’s nothing that screams wealth, sophistication, and exclusivity than the world of private banking. That’s kind of strange because there are far more smoke and mirrors than most outsiders actually realize. Yes, it’s a higher level of service than your average Joe can ever expect to receive at their local branch network. But, fundamentally, private banking does the same job. It sets out to provide products and services that meet the needs of a certain type of client – in this case, high net worth (HNW) and ultra-high net worth (UHMW) clients. You could be talking about the Swiss powerhouse ..read more

Keep Your Eyes on the Road

We’re more than halfway through the year and not a lot has happened. I say that in a slightly tongue-in-cheek, very understating the truth kind of way. The point is, unless you’re intentional with your actions, life will simply happen to you. Busyness will get in the way of all those targets you had for the year, those aspirations you had for your career, the dreams you had for your life. The “I can’t believe it’s already July (or August or September…)” conversation is a true reflection of that. It’s so often a reflection of you finding yourself doing the same old, same old, without any engage ..read more
