Junior's Travels

Over the course of my life, I have spent a lot of time in Western North Carolina. And people have always told me that I needed to see some of the sites while I’m here. So, I decided to take a day and go see some of the most popular tourist attractions. Which is why finding God’s glory at Grandfather Mountain was so nice! You see, all my life I have heard about Grandfather Mountain (https://grandfather.com/). And in some places, you can actually see it from afar. But this time, I decided to go see the mountain itself and see what was so great about it. So, I bought my ticket online, which is th ..read more

Finding God’s glory at The Blowing Rock

When you ask a local in Western North Carolina what sites you should see, they always come up with a list. Most people start with Linville Falls, Linville Caverns, Grandfather Mountain, and Mount Mitchell. But finding God’s glory at The Blowing Rock was definitely a must-see for me. Blowing Rock, North Carolina is a cute little town. But you shouldn’t confuse this with The Blowing Rock (https://theblowingrock.com/). This is North Carolina’s oldest tourist attraction. And the Rock itself is reported to be over one million years old. The legend of The Blowing Rock comes from Native American folk ..read more

Finding God’s glory at Land of Oz

I don’t know about you, but one of my greatest memories was watching “The Wizard of Oz” on TV. It only came on once a year on a Sunday night. And we all gathered around the TV to watch. That’s why finding God’s glory at Land of Oz was so easy to do. Every year in the fall, Autumn at Oz (https://landofoznc.com/) is performed for visitors. I was lucky enough to hear about it from one of the guests at the campground where I work. I had never heard about it before. But once she mentioned it, I knew I had to see what it was about. So, I looked it up on the internet, bought my ticket, asked for the ..read more

Finding God’s glory at the Orchard

I know I may be alone in this, but I love the taste of a freshly picked apple. And living in North Carolina, there are many opportunities to eat those. But nothing is better than finding God’s glory at the Orchard at Altapass. They will pick them for you and sell them to you by the bag! About five miles down the road from the campground I am staying at this year is an apple orchard. It is called The Orchard at Altapass (https://altapassorchard.org/). I decided one day to go there to see what type of apples they have. You see, I had been to an orchard a few years ago and found a type that I rea ..read more

Finding God’s glory without internet

I realize it has been a while since I posted. It has been great living in the mountains of North Carolina. But finding God’s glory without internet has proven to be a struggle. Without internet, I can’t post my stories for people to read. But we recently fixed that problem. For the past several months, I have been outside of Spruce Pine, North Carolina. And I am working at a campground here. And needless to say, the internet has been awful. A new company (https://spaciousskiescampgrounds.com/) bought the campground in March and they have been making some improvements. Fiber optic internet has ..read more

Finding God’s glory in memories
Junior's Travels

When someone reaches a certain point in their life, they start reflecting on the past. They focus on how they came to be the person they are. And finding God’s glory in memories is something that we all need to think about sometimes. This year is a major one in my life. I reach a milestone in age. And I started thinking about all of the things I have been through in my life. And all of the things I have left to do. So, I started reflecting, I tried to remember more good things than bad. I remembered my first love. The first time I had sex. When I moved away from home. Sharing a house with my s ..read more

Finding God’s glory in Covington

Whenever I am in the Atlanta area, I try to see at least one place that is touristy. You know, the kind where people go just to say they have been. That’s how I ended up finding God’s glory in Covington, Georgia. It’s only a few miles out of town but well worth the trip. If you are a fan of Vampire Diaries like I am, you would understand the draw of Covington, Georgia. You see, this is where part of the TV show was filmed. And I can see why they chose this town. It is a quaint little place with a lot of history. When I first drove into town, there was so much traffic. I think it must be like t ..read more

Finding God’s glory in Traffic Jams
Junior's Travels

One of the things I like about staying on the east side of the country is that I get to visit my daughter as I move from one job to the next. And seeing her and her family is very important to me. So, every few months I have to drive through Atlanta. And finding God’s glory in traffic jams is not always easy. But I am trying! Ever since my grandson was born a little over a year ago, I try to make sure that I spend a week or so between jobs with my daughter and her family. I want to see the changes in Mason as he gets older. And I want him to recognize me. But I learned a long time ago that I a ..read more

Finding God’s glory in Goodbyes
Junior's Travels

About every six to seven months, I leave my current place and move on to another. So, when my time in Florida was done, it was time to begin a new adventure. The only problem is the friends I make at each stop. But that’s when finding God’s glory in goodbyes becomes a blessing. Whenever I leave a position to move on, I have to say goodbye to the people I have come to care about. You see, at the beginning of the job, I make new friends. Either in the job or in the campground where I am parked. Sometimes, those two things coincide. But nevertheless, leaving is sometimes a very hard thing to do ..read more

Finding God’s glory in Jeep Ducks
Junior's Travels

If you follow me regularly, you know that I have a Jeep. And being a Jeep owner, there are several things specific to our kind. One thing is that we are really friendly to other Jeep owners. Which is why finding God’s glory in Jeep ducks is so telling of our kind. First thing I need to tell you is that I am not talking about all Jeep owners. I am talking exclusively about Wrangler (and now Gladiator) owners. Not that I have anything against other kinds of Jeeps. A few members of my family have other kinds of Jeeps like a Compass, a Renegade, and a Grand Cherokee. Those owners are not the topic ..read more
