The meanderings of a bear maker. I am a maker. I love to sew, weave, knit, glue, hammer, paint and anything else I can think of as long as my hands are moving. I come from a long line of makers of every sort and was lucky enough to have their support in my efforts from a very early age. When I was 10 I got my first sewing machine, a Singer Featherweight, and I was off making stuffed animals..

Creating a mini pond is can be easy and quick if you purchase all the parts but it can also be a test of your mini skills if you decide to make many of the features from scratch. The pond show here, was made using a combination of purchased and handmade pieces. I made from scratch the reeds and cattails, the lily flowers but not the lily pads, and the base material (the dirt at the bottom of the pond).
Let’s start with what I purchased:
The base for the pond is a large shallow reptile food dish. I purchased mine on Amazon.com. This could have be made from polymer clay but why. It is probably ..read more

If you are considering an airbrush system for adding depth to your teddy bears, you will have noticed that it is quite a commitment and expense. Trying to decide what pump, what nozzle and what inks too purchase all without really knowing if you will you will be able to master the techniques or like the outcome. I decided to go with the Copic marker system. It is a fairly low investment to get started and I already had some markers.
Copic AirBrush System Kit #2 around $90 on Amazon

That go viral
Sadly, selling bears on the internet is not about the quality or cuteness of the bear. It’s about the marketing of the bear. If no one sees your bear, it does not matter how cute it is, no one will buy your bear.
Good photos are the key to selling something on the web. The photo must capture all that your product is and give the customer confidence in the product they are considering. Poor lighting, focus and staging can ruin your chances of making a sale. A great photo can tip the consumer to choose one product over another. However this article is not about taking clear crisp p ..read more

It is my opinion that the teddy bear face is everything. If you don’t like the face you won’t like the bear and if you love the face you will have to have him. Because of this, I think one should take a top-down approach to designing a bear. This article will focus on the basics of bear face design and hopefully help you make your best bear ever.
Although we are starting with the head we cannot forget the rest of the bear in our designs. The 11 inch bear to the left illustrates the teddy bear ratio of head to body of about 3:5. 3″ head + 5″ body will make a 8″ sitting bear. The legs are about ..read more
