I tried to configure vCenter HA in my lab environment. I use vCenter 7 U1 so it is the latest version. I added new network interface into VM and configured it on WAMI page, but when I pushed the “SET UP VCENTER HA” button I got error message. You can see this message in the picture below. But before I tell you the correct solution I’m going to show how you can configure vCenter HA. Configure vCenter HA First of all you have to create a separated network for HA traffic. The vCenter HA network connects the Active, Passive, and Witness nodes and replicates the server state. It also monitors hear ..read more

My previous blog post I presented how you can enable vSAN file service on vSAN 7.0. In this article I’m going to show the process of upgrade from 7.0 to 7.0 U1, where you are able to use SMB shares. I find the official document about this topic but I felt it is not so detailed. Link here. Upgrade vSAN 7.0 U1 File Service Go to vSAN Cluster / Configure / vSAN / Services menu and hit “CHECK UPGRADE” button. If you have internet connection the system will download the OVF files. In this scenario I chose the manual approach again. The reason is simple, I don’t have internet connection in my lab s ..read more

vSphere 7 U1 in the corner and as we know external PSC mode is depricated. If you use external PSC configuration with linked mode you have to switch to internal PSC mode. https://blogs.vmware.com/vsphere/2020/03/vsphere-7-vcenter-server-7-migration-upgrades.html Fortunatly VMware introduced converge tool (in 6.7 U1) to help us migrate external PSC to embedded. It is a GUI solution so if you don’t like CLI just use it. In this article I would like to show you how you can converge your external PSC servers when you use linked mode solution between two data centers. First of all I recommend to yo ..read more

I want to redeploy my lab environment because I have to use same vCenter version like in production system. During the VCSA server installation process I got error message and I have to delete VCSA. Nothing special until I realised I intalled VCSA on vSAN datastore. As you know during VCSA install you can select “Install on a new virtual SAN cluster” option. Because I have to start the deploy process from beginning I have to delete vSAN datastore. But on GUI no options to delete that. When you follow the few steps below you can delet your vSAN datastore and are able to restart VCSA deploy proc ..read more

In the beginning, I want to tell you that the Application Monitoring and Service Discovery two different and independent features in vRealize Operations Manager. Application Monitoring collects metrics from 20 different applications (Eg.: ActiveDirectory, Exchange, MS-SQL… and so on) while Service Discovery discover services in VM / OS. If you enable the “Business Application Discovery and Grouping” function this feature will create custom application groups from discovered services which are belonged or connected to each other. But our topic today is Application Monitoring. Jump in. Before vR ..read more

As you know from VMware vRealize Operations Manager 7.5 the application monitoring agent has been changed from End Point Operations Agent to Telegraf. Earlier admins needs to deploy End Point Operations Agents manual or use some central / remote deploy solutions. Upgrade was a nightmare becouse in versions 6.x have no manage upgrade process. Some versions later VMware created a solution pack wich are able to upgrade all End Point Agents and shows to you some feedback about upgrade status. You can manage it only on Admin UI and was not a perfect solution. So they decided to change agent to Tele ..read more

I would like to share my experience about vCenter upgrade from 6.7 to 7.0. I was part of vSphere private bate tests like last couple of vSphere version. In my Lab environment I have upgraded vCenter. Upgrades or migrations from vSphere 6.0 or earlier releases to vSphere 7.0 are not supported. Upgrades or migrations from vSphere 6.5 or later releases to vSphere 7.0 are supported. If you have vSphere 6.0 or earlier, you must upgrade to vSphere 6.5 or vSphere 6.7 before upgrading to vSphere 7.0. vCenter Server 7.0 cannot manage ESXi hosts 6.0 or earlier. Due to the deprecation of vCenter Server ..read more
