Dilation after transgender male-to-female (MTF) surgery, also known as vaginoplasty, is a crucial aspect of post-operative care. It involves the regular insertion of a dilator into the newly constructed vaginal canal to prevent stenosis (narrowing) and maintain the depth and width of the vagina. While the procedure itself is often the culmination of a long and deeply personal journey for individuals undergoing gender affirmation surgery, the importance of dilation cannot be overstated in achieving optimal surgical outcomes, physical comfort, and psychological well-bei ..read more

The LGBTQ+ community often struggles with social stigma and discriminatory attention. However, there is another issue that is prevalent among these individuals: high tobacco use rates. Statistics on LGB adults show that they smoked more cigarettes compared to heterosexual adults. This trend can also be seen among transgender adults, who are 9% more likely to be using tobacco products, including cigarettes, e-cigarettes, and cigars, compared to cisgender adults.
Unfortunately, no one is exempted from the negative health effects of cigarette use. Most are familiar with the long-term cau ..read more

I am so intrigued by AI and how it responds to certain questions, especially when they are so intrinsically intertwined with humanity itself. This time I wanted to see how informative the ChatGBT bot would be when asked to explain what transgender GRS was. Here’s the response.
ChatGBT Explains What Transgender GRS is
Transgender GRS, or Gender Reassignment Surgery, also known as Gender Confirmation Surgery or Sex Reassignment Surgery (SRS), is a surgical procedure that some transgender individuals undergo as part of their transition to align their physical characteristics with their gender ide ..read more

When you come out of hospital and begin your recovery from Transgender GRS Surgery, you want things to be as easy and worry free as possible. Here’s a few bits that I have found helpful, that may make your recovery that little bit easier.

Although the hospital may provide you with a few pads for when you leave, it’s a good idea to grab some in ahead of your return home. It’s good practice to change them often to make sure you are hygienic and your wounds have the best chance to heal after your GRS surgery. In the first f ..read more

As a transgender woman, I have been wanting this surgery for many years. As with everything I can only give my own opinion and personal experience, but this is what it was like for me when I had my transgender GRS surgery.
The journey to hospital
I hadn’t really thought too much about my upcoming surgery in the lead up to the date. I kept myself busy and distracted and and didn’t really take the time to process all of the emotions and feelings around what I was about to go through. I consumed myself with work, making jewellery, writing, cleaning the house, whatever I could to not have to worry ..read more

With AI becoming more and more prevalent these days, I wanted to find out how an AI tool would respond to a question I get asked from time to time; How does it feel to be transgender?
This is the ‘ChatGBT’ response;
As an AI language model, I don’t have personal experiences or emotions, so I can’t provide a first hand account of how it feels to be transgender. However, I can offer some general insights based on the experiences shared by transgender individuals.
It’s important to remember that everyone’s experience of being transgender is unique, and there is no single narrative that applies to ..read more

Having recently undergone my GRS, here’s 5 things I feel were good to prep for my transgender surgery.
Plenty of Food in Your Cupboards
Making sure your cupboards are full, especially if you are going to be alone any time soon after your surgery is vital. You won’t be able to get around much, and you won’t be able to drive for at least 4-6 weeks.
Tinned food, loo roll, toiletries and snacks to make sure you have all you need is essential. Simple foods that can be easily prepped, like tins and frozen food make it easier so that you don’t need to spend ages chopping and cleaning up afterwards. Y ..read more
