Opening a new venue is always hard and, as my friend Ed told me about his plans, there was no need to think twice about doing a feature. The reason why I feel comfortable with this is the purpose: M.I.C.A.H. is not only a place to give artists a stage – it is also an attempt to provide encouragement, support, advice and a platform for creative people to share their work in Second Life. Thats what a community is about – good luck, Ed! M.I.C.A.H.The project Planned as a hub of knowledge and shared experiences for musicians, photographers, artists, poets and comedians, M.I.C.A.H. is more a proje ..read more

“Country and a dash of pop.” Jack Dryden @ Saddles

It’s been a while since my last post and as I heard about a newcomer I thought it was the perfect opportunity. No sooner said than done, I went to Saddles to see Jack Dryden. @ Saddles Starting catchy with the little folk tune “Flowers in your hair” by The Lumineers he got me instantly in a feel good mood and so much in advance, he was able to keep me there. With his clear and relatively soft voice he led us through his set, which mainly consisted of country and some pop tunes – but he also took care to keep it varied and so there were not only upbeat songs but also some slower ones. Continuing my series of interviews I had the chance to talk to Ed in SL on his houseboat in Bellisseria after his show at Saddles, which I featured here. Ed is a singer/songwriter who just returned to Second Life after a long break. Ed in SL Hello Ed, thanks for agreeing to this interview, it’s great to be here with you. It was a wonderful show earlier and before we start, tell us a little about you? Well lets see, I am from the UK although I have spent the last 9 years living in Colorado but I recently moved back to live in England – big adjustment. I am planning on staying in England for th ..read more

Good things are worth waiting for and finally I’m starting my series of interviews, beginning with Desirae Beaumont, owner of Surfside Hideaway – one of the oldest live music venues in Second Life. Being at a lot of concerts there before I thought it would be a good idea to see this side of the community first. You all know it: no venues, no live music. Desirae Beaumont, owner Surfside Hideaway Glad to have you here for the interview Desirae. As you are the owner of Surfside Hideaway, would you like to tell us something about the club first? I founded Surfside Hideaway with the help of my fri ..read more

Being invited is always something nice, especially when it means to discover something new. I was asked to come over to Saddles to see returner Ed in SL – how could I say no when I neither knew Ed nor had visited Saddles before? @ SaddlesEd opened his show with his original “Spanish beauty”, a soulful start that immediately gave us a glimpse of what to expect in the next hour: a sentimental but relatively light and loose voice combined with good guitar playing. His set was a good mix of originals and covers including Radiohead, Chris Stapleton and Bill Withers, but for me his own songs ..read more

It was a kind of throwback Thursday since it has been quite a while since I last stopped at The Blues Cove, and as I saw the group notice of Bo .W. Shim playing there – there was no need to think twice. @ The Blues CoveWarming up with some slow country, Bo started easy. With Keith Urban, Kenny Rogers and Co he created a kind of floating feel good mood before he let things get going. B.B. King’s ” Rock me baby” followed by Jimmy Reed’s “Baby what you want me to do”, but it was the Elvis Presley medley “Got my mojo working / Keep your hands off of it” that made me want to dance. His emoti ..read more

It’s Saturday again and to get some distraction from these wild times I pursued my favorite hobby, live music. Since my last visit to TempleRock Island was quite a while ago – it was time to change that and so I went to see Satch. @ TempleRock IslandWith Gary Moore’s “Still got the blues” as kick off, Satch started quite calm and immediately captivated me with his electric guitar solo – a wonderful choice to get in the mood for the following show. No matter if blues, pop or rock there was no time for boredom as he played a great mixture of requests and own picks, which became much more ..read more

Another Sunday morning at Surfside Hideaway and it isn’t only a place for good live music, but also a perfect refuge on these days for the things that happen outside in the world. Tomorrowland was the band of choice this time. @ Surfside HideawayIt’s hard not to be captured by the music of Tomorrowland, which I would describe as a mix of surfer lifestyle and a good portion of the 70s – super easy to listen to. With laid back guitar notes dominating, all songs are originals written by Taiko and Charles, reflecting their positive, joy- and thoughtful attitude with a recognizable note but ..read more
