Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy

Do you find yourself a little less joyful these days than you have been in the past? Life seems harder than it used to be, civility is difficult to find, and decorum seems to be a relic of the past. From news reports and social media to common experiences in our everyday lives, the world […] The post Finding Joy appeared first on Even If i Walk Alone ..read more

When It’s All Said and Done
Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy

When it’s all said and done, only what we do for Jesus will remain. We understand that, right? We believe that. It doesn’t take a genius to understand we take nothing of this world with us when we die (1 Timothy 6:7). All we accumulate on earth will be stripped from us the moment we breathe our last, and probably well before then. We know that and we affirm that, but we don’t live as if it’s true. Instead, we spend our entire lives pursuing things we know we can’t keep (Matthew 6:19-20). We consume all our time chasing after what will be taken from us instead of devoting our lives to the On ..read more

I Hope I’m Wrong
Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy

I hope I’m wrong. Based on what I read in the Bible, it is my conviction that those who are saved will bear the fruit of their salvation (Matthew 7:16-20). They will love the Lord with all their heart and have a deep hunger for His Word (Psalm 119:97). They will have a deep desire to keep His commandments and show an ever-increasing success in accomplishing that (John 14:15). The way I read scripture informs me those who love the Lord will put aside the things of this world and obsess over the promised Kingdom to come (Colossians 3:1-2). But I hope I’m wrong about all of that because, if it ..read more

Through the Lens of Christ
Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy
2w ago
What if we lived our lives viewing everything and everyone through the lens of Christ? What if we saw others the way Jesus sees them, and only engaged in activities Jesus would engage in? How might our lives be different, and how might we impact the world for the sake of the gospel and the glory of our King? Every day, we do things to further our goals and desires. Humanity is nothing if not self-absorbed. From the time we wake each day, we are thinking about how we look, planning what we’ll do, and talking about ourselves to others. We live our life through the lens of what we want and we ..read more

The Things of This World
Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy
2w ago
The more you love the things of this world, the less you will delight in God. If the things of this world are more desirable to you than God’s Word, it’s time to reassess your commitment to Christ. When we come to Jesus, our old ways and desires pass away (2 Corinthians 5:17). We become a new creation with new desires and priorities. For most, this doesn’t happen overnight. We are creatures of habit, and we will not shed our sinful nature until Christ glorifies us with Him in Heaven. This means as long as we are on earth, we will continue to struggle against temptation (Romans 7:18-20). But ..read more

Pursuing Lies
Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy
3w ago
How long will we love what is worthless and spend our days pursuing lies? It’s a question King David asked concerning his enemies thousands of years ago and one that God is still asking of us today (Psalm 4:2). David asked it of his enemies, but I doubt anyone reading this considers themselves an enemy of God. How, then, can we explain why we are living our lives for such worthless pursuits? We declare ourselves to be enemies of God when we reject Him and pursue the things of this world  (James 4:4). Howl at that statement all you wish, but Jesus said those who aren’t with Him are agai ..read more

Great Is Thy Faithfulness
Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy
3w ago
While rehearsing the classic hymn, “Great is Thy Faithfulness”, I found myself asking, “To what is God being faithful?” As I thought through all the ways God shows Himself faithful in my life, it occurred to me that above all, God is faithful to Himself. He is faithful to His character, which does not change (Numbers 23:19). The fact He never wavers to any degree is proof of His faithfulness. That He is faithful to Himself assures us He will always be faithful in kindness, goodness, mercy, grace, love, and even in His wrath (James 1:17). God’s faithfulness is great because it is reliable, t ..read more

Persecuted for the Sake of Jesus
Even If i Walk Alone

Vineet is a follower of Christ in India. When he was younger, Hindu militants forced to him leave his parents and home because of his faith. Since then, he has twice more been kicked out of towns and had his property seized. All because of his faith in Christ (Matthew 5:10-12). This isn’t unusual in India, a nation that is growing ever more hostile to Christianity. What struck me about Vineet was his courage and faithfulness. Older now, he leads a Bible study deep in the jungle away from the eyes of forces who wish to silence him. After years of suffering and injustice, Vineet simply says ..read more

Are We Really Any Better?
Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy

As you read the Bible, it’s easy to shake your head at some of the characters. We think we would never behave that way or make the choices they did. Knowing what we know of Jesus today, I think it’s easy to be confident we would react better if we were in their place. Let me assure you, none of us would. I know this because I know myself and I know what I observe in others every day. Perhaps our actions are even worse than those of our ancestors. We have the complete Word and revelation of God in our hands and our native language (2 Timothy 3:16-17). This phenomenon is only a few hundred ye ..read more

Holy
Even If i Walk Alone
by Tim Sherfy
1M ago
In the apostle John’s vision of Heaven, he records seeing living creatures around the throne of God who never stop praising the Lord (Revelation 4:8). Day and night they proclaim “Holy, holy, holy.” They praise God without ceasing. To be in God’s presence is beyond any of our imaginations. Yet for all who know Christ, we dwell in His presence every day of our lives. Why are we not compelled to praise Him every moment we have breath? When we grasp the reality of Immanuel, God with us, we cannot help but be in awe (Matthew 1:23). The problem is so few ever come to understand the gravity of Je ..read more
