ILIGAN City ― The city government will decide on the fate of the contractor of the touted “world-class” market, soon. That is, whether to let BM Marketing, the contractor of the said market at Palao, this city finished it or not. This was the gist of the statement of Atty. Robert Padilla, city legal officer on the matter, to reporters, who interviewed him over the weekend. He added that the said market, per the contract, ought to be finished within 549 calendar days but it wasn’t finished yet and the contractor was given another 318 days, lawyer added. RTA managers doing nothing?
Mindanao Gold Star Daily

IT is good to see Mr. Gil Duldulao back on the streets. This person is one that other traffic aides and RTA managers in the city must emulate. Unlike the managers of RTA who do not know how to run an office, Mr. Duldulao knows how to implement traffic rules. The multicab that was used as a store selling siomai at Tirso Neri corner Pabayo has finally been removed thanks to Mr. Duldulao. That multicab was illegally parked there 24/7 without the supposed RTA managers lifting a finger. Ngano, gihatagan sila ug siomai kada adlaw? x x x The grapevine said that while other city hall employees were ha ..read more

Deep why

A SIP of tequila—yes, a sip, not even a shot—and beer on the rocks are the senior moment’s version of nightlife. I’ve reached that age where a bar would give me coffee instead of alcohol, perhaps afraid to worsen my comorbidities. Haha. As if needing more reminders for reaching a certain age, the San Mig Apple I ordered was not chilled, so I poured it into a glass filled with ice which made it taste like bitter halo-halo. Or affogato but with ice instead of vanilla gelato, and beer instead of espresso. After gulping down the watered-down beer at the KTV bar, the next stop was the bar next door ..read more

Kuwentong Peyups: Whales as symbols of life, death and hope
Mindanao Gold Star Daily
by Dennis Gorecho

WHALES are associated with compassion and solitude, and knowledge of both life and death. Whales play special roles in the history and culture of Cadiz City in Negros, Occidental as it is called the City of Whales. Various murals of whales are scattered on the walls of schools along with the centerpiece of the fountain at the city plaza. Its annual festival “Dinagsa” every last weekend of January was coined after an event that occurred on May 7, 1967, when several whales were stranded along the city’s shores each measuring at least 40 feet long and eight feet tall. Dinagsa came from a Hiligayn ..read more

THE implementation of a tax amnesty ordinance in the city has led to a significant increase in business tax collection, the highest seen in the past five years. Cagayan de Oro City treasurer Jasmin Maagad said city hall collected P704 million as of January 26, P185 million more than the P519 million it raised during the same period in 2022 when the effects of the Covid-19 pandemic were still hurting the local economy. The therapy
Mindanao Gold Star Daily

ILIGAN City ― It was a revelation of a kind of therapy of sorts. Or maybe, impacted most of the audience, so it might be some kind of therapy that might end all therapies. I don’t know. This was about two weeks ago. This lawyer, the President of a Visayas and Mindanao-wide advocacy called “Ludabi” or “Lubas sa Dagang Bisaya” had several mouthfuls of this kind of therapy. Let’s call him L for the moment. He said in a part of his speech that one day the joints in his legs felt funny. It was unsettling, he said. Because, when he walked the joints in his legs made some “noise”. What was happening ..read more

Thank you for the muzak

FOR a while there, electronic dance music (EDM) was my daily go-to muzak. But after a friend noted how loud it was while we were talking over the phone, I began to notice, too: Yup, it’s noisy. And boring. So, I listened to Garbage for a while: “I’m only happy when it rains/I’m only happy when it’s complicated/And though I know you can’t appreciate it/I’m only happy when it rains.” Hmmm. Was this switch a sign of progress? Better listen to Linkin Park, INXS, The Cranberries, Foo Fighters, Nirvana, and Soundgarden on a rainy morning although that could mean it’s not only the weather. These are ..read more
