Hey there! I'm Marie Greene. I learned to knit at my grandmother's side when I was around 11 years old and as my family and friends can attest I never put my needles down. And if I'm not knitting, I'm writing (about something creative), speaking (about something creative) or cooking (something delicious). Truth be told, I'm always up to something. Knitting is so much more than just a hobby, isn’t it? It’s an art form —a way to express creativity, unwind from the stress of daily life, and produce something beautiful and functional. If you’re like Marie Greene, you know that every stitch counts, and as a community, we can do great things together. For years, she has supported the World Central Kitchen through monthly donations through Olive Knits. In 2023, a special promotion raised an extra $1800 on top of the monthly donations. It should come as no surprise that she’s joining the Knit for Food Knit-a-thon, hosted by Laura Nelkin, with a goal to raise $10,000!
The Knit for Food Knit-a-thon serves as a platform for knitters of all skill levels to channel their passion into a meaningful cause. Whether you’re a seasoned pro ..read more

When Pantone announced the 2024 Color of the Year, I let out an audible groan. Peach Fuzz, really? Is this what we get when artificial intelligence picks color trends? To say I wasn’t in love would an understatement. I wasn’t nearly as inspired as I was with last year’s color, Viva Magenta. I’ve had a few weeks now to get used to the color and I’ll be the first to admit, I was wrong. Peach Fuzz needs to be on your needles, let me tell you why.
Accent for Accessories
Peach tones compliment many other shades on the color wheel and will meld perfectly into multi-colored accessories.

My lifelong obsession with yarn and crafty things is followed closely by my love for office supplies. I’m a list-maker, goal-setter, calendar-obsessed human, and I LOVE the New Year. It is the ultimate Monday, but in a good way.
I love the clean slate of a new calendar.
I love the possibilities of a fresh to-do list.
I love the juicy, life-changing potential of a year I haven’t met yet.
So, as we turn the page to a Brand-Spanking-New Year I want to share the tools I use to bring my goals to life throughout the year.
Brilliant Weekly Scheduler. For all of my fancy planners, this simple desk-to ..read more

If you’ve ever lost your knitting (important knitting, expensive-yarn-knitting, almost-a-finished-sweater-knitting), then today’s story is one of hope and redemption.
Now listen, I’m someone who has a lot of WIPs (works-in-progress). And when I say a lot, I mean actual DOZENS of knitting projects in some state of unfinished-ness. I have eight sweaters on my needles. Maybe nine. I have four pairs of socks on my needles. I have cowls, hats, shawls, and mittens. ON MY NEEDLES. Not finished.
I don’t mind this chronic state of unfinished creativity; it’s my normal, and I know they’ll all be f ..read more

I’ve been a mystery knitter since the beginning. Granted, I didn’t intend to knit mystery projects, but most of my early knitting came from my grandmother’s notes scribbled on paper scraps. There were no pictures. I just had to trust that if I followed those notes, I would end up with what I set out to make.
[Psst… we’re on the cusp of the next Spring String Mystery Knitalong – check it out here.]
Mystery knitting is really just knitting without a picture, right? You have all the information you need to succeed – you just don’t know exactly what it’s going to look like. Sometimes not kno ..read more

When I buy yarn, I almost exclusively shop for sweater quantities. I do this because I’m mostly a sweater knitter, but I also figure that having a little extra yarn so that I have enough for anything I might want to make is never a bad thing.
The problem, though, is that sometimes I don’t need a whole sweater quantity. Sometimes I just need one or two skeins for a project, and I automatically disqualify any yarn I’m “saving” for a sweater. Scanning my stash, I see a LOT of yarn, but it’s all spoken for. It’s sweater yarn.
As I searched my stash for the right yarn for a recent project, I kept c ..read more

My favorite sweater bit the dust a few years ago. It was an ordinary store-bought cardigan – nothing special – except that it was green (more on that in a minute) and had a black and white striped ribbon on the underside of the button band. I freaking loved that sweater. I wore it until it was threadbare, and then – in a moment of decluttering fury – I got rid of it.
As much as I love decluttering – and as much as that sweater really was on its last leg – I missed it when it was gone. Finding a replacement was easier said than done. Sure, cardigans are everywhere, but not THAT one.

How do we turn the tedious bits into an experience we can love? Here are some tips!
If there’s one thing I’ve learned in more than three decades of knitting, it’s this: Not all knitting stitches are created equal. Cast-on stitches are exciting. Bind-off stitches take forever. Stitches in the middle of the project are tedious (and take 10x longer than all the other stitches). And sleeve stitches… well, sleeve stitches are kind of the worst.
I blogged about sleeves a while back and I stand behind my belief that sleeve knitting is slog because it takes us out of the flow of knitting across a lar ..read more
