Broncos Country probably knew the split was coming, but earlier this week the Broncos made it official. Taking a staggering dead cap money hit to the teams salary cap situation over the next two years, just to make sure Russ isn't in the building. The Denver Broncos, or more correctly HC Sean Payton has benched QB Russell Wilson for the remainder of the 2023 Season. Somewhat of a shock given we aren't totally eliminated from the playoff race. At the end of the day this feels financially driven given Russ's contract, and a mild scapegoat for HC Sean Payton. Will be interesting, as Payton doesn't have a great track record of grooming QBs outside of Drew Brees. The Denver Broncos had everything to play for Xmas Eve, however poor play for a majority of the game along the offensive and defensive lines played a major part in falling short to the Patriots. An uncharacteristic poor performance by CB Patrick Surtain II, slow starting offense, and the usual poor performance by WR Jerry Jeudy didn't help matters either.
