I will answer that question with a question. Can christians suffer from cancer, diabetes, or heart disease? Yes, they can! But when it comes to mental illness there is often a stigma associated with the words “anxiety” or “depression”. Just as someone may break an arm, so our minds can be broken and take time to repair. Learning from the best Someone who I highly respect and is known as the “prince of preachers” in the 1800s, is Charles Spurgeon. One thing that isolation, during Covid, has taught me is that we need community. I know for some, isolation has brought new blessings as life slowed down and we were forced to take time out. But despite the advantages, over the long term, isolation was not the way God created us to live.  Even before the world began God himself lived in relationship. There has always been the Trinity. That is Father, Son and Holy Spirit. They are in relationship wth one another.  So whether we like it or not, we were created for community. And when we are in a community this is where we will flourish ..read more

If I had known it was coming I would have run in the opposite direction. But as is often the case we don’t really have a say in what suffering we will go through. I found myself grappling with many questions, wondering how my life could turn upside down so quickly and what in the world God was doing. Here are five lessons God has be ..read more

My husband and I had already gone to bed. It was about 11 p.m. when we heard a knock on our bedroom door. It was our twelve-year-old son. As he entered our room I could see tears streaming down his face, and all I could hear him say was, “I’m sorry. I’m so sorry.” As a mother, my mind raced with thoughts of what he would say. My husband invited him to sit on our bed and explain what he was sorry about. It turned out, our son had been involved in some things at school that he shouldn’t have. He was going to walk through some consequences that would be very difficult for him… Do you struggle wit ..read more

When we go through difficult circumstances it is hard to see anything good coming out of it.   The pain or the trial can be so overwhelming that all of our thoughts become consumed by what is going wrong in our lives. As we deal with the current world crisis, we can struggle to understand what God is doing.   All we can see is pain, restrictions, death, panic, and financial uncertainty.   But something I have been praying for myself is that I would see God in the midst of the chaos.  That I would see him working.    As I do, my eyes have been lifted up to see the goodness of God ..read more

Do you find yourself ticking the days off the calendar during this season of lockdown and isolation?  Can you feel the rising of cabin fever as you care for your children behind the four walls of your home? It seems whatever was consuming our thoughts last week has become insignificant to what is happening this week. How quickly things are changing as the virus makes its way around the world.   Whether you feel prepared or not, the next few weeks or months could be very different for so many of us.   It is understandable that some people will be experiencing fear.   As Christians, we can feel guilty for being afraid as we get all these reminders to be strong, trust God and don’t worry!! Easier said than done, especially if you have elderly parents in an aged care facility or if you ..read more
