The Black-Tailed Godwits at RSPB Radipole in Weymouth are getting their breeding colours ready for a summer of fun and frolics in Iceland. I’ll be sad to see them go and wish them well until their return ..read more

I love getting a close view of a Redshank. They’re such expert alarm-callers that they were refereed to as ‘the Warden of the Marshes’ because of their behaviour of raising the alarm before other species. This time it’s different because I’m in a hide at Seaton Wetlands and they seem ..read more

We’re on a cruise in Poole Harbour with Birds of Poole Harbour. We’re hoping to see one of the White-Tailed Eagles which roost and hunt around the harbour. Luckily, there are three birds, one adult and two juveniles sat on Keysworth. Here’s one: We’re even witness to one flying. We ..read more

The Pochard, Aythya ferina, has been called Pochard since the mid 1500s but the origin of its name is lost in etymological history. They’re wonderful diving ducks with the males having a black breast and tail and a gorgeous ginger head with red eyes. They can swim past me any ..read more

Do you know that feeling of going somewhere every day and being so familiar with it that you don’t see something special or obvious – and then feeling delighted when you notice it? That’s what I want to do with my art. Here’s the Golden Lion Pub. This town centre ..read more

Lichen is hardy. The salt spray, the desiccating sun, and the bitter wind don’t discourage it at all. They simply slow its growth to an imperceptible creep. There are 20,000 different species of lichen and they cover 6% of the Earth’s surface. Give them enough time and they’ll cover more ..read more

After finding an endless supply of Pineapple Weed on Westray last summer I’m now very keen on making some Pineapple Weed Posset. All I need is a buttery biscuit base, cream, sugar, lemon juice and, of course, plentiful supplies of Pineapple Weed flower heads. I’m told that the flavours go ..read more
