Donald Trump’s Tariffs Will Force Amazon To Choose Between Low Prices Or U.S. Sellers
Amazon is facing an unprecedented balancing act - trying to compete with Chinese marketplaces on price while simultaneously keeping its marketplace an attractive place to do business for its U.S. suppliers. Now, Donald Trump's proposed tariffs of up to 60% on Chinese imports threaten to make this juggling act impossible. The retail giant's recent moves reflect this tension. Earlier this month, Amazon launched "Haul," a new shopping experience targeting price-conscious consumers with items under $20 ..read more

Amazon Haul, Delivered a Little More Slowl
Years ago, Jeff Bezos couldn’t imagine a customer saying, “I love Amazon, but if only they could deliver my products a little more slowly.” Today, it launched a Shein and Temu competitor called Amazon Haul, which does precisely that. In October 2007, Harvard Business Review published an interview with Jeff Bezos. In the interview, Jeff Bezos said he often gets asked, “What’s going to change in the next five to ten years?” But he rarely gets asked, “What’s not going to change in the next five to ten years?”

Amazon Laid the Brandless Foundation for Temu
Amazon taught shoppers to look past brand names, laying the foundation for the rapid growth of Temu. It made buying no-name products the norm, and Temu is now selling them for less. Amazon is a brandless retailer. Most shoppers do not include a brand name in their searches (they look for “running shoes” rather than “Nike running shoes”), and most products carry a brand name shoppers have never seen before. But it all works because they trust Amazon and pick products based on product reviews and ratings.

Amazon Launches Project Amelia, an AI Assistant For Third-Party Sellers
Amazon launched a new AI-powered personal assistant for third-party vendors Thursday, one of many new features the company rolled out for its independent sellers this week. The assistant, internally called Project Amelia, answers questions for sellers, offers advice and, down the line, will diagnose problems and take action. Amazon Is Shipping 70% More Off-Amazon Orders
Amazon’s 3PL business has shipped 70% more orders for sales channels like TikTok so far this year. Its business shipping goods for off-Amazon orders is growing faster than on-Amazon sales. Sellers who outsource fulfillment to Amazon using the FBA service can also use that inventory to fulfill orders in other sales channels, including marketplaces like Walmart, social commerce apps like TikTok, and direct-to-consumer websites. That’s called Multi-Channel Fulfillment (MCF).

Jaré Buckley-Cox, Vice President of Walmart Fulfillment Services, confirmed the two-thirds metric during the Walmart Marketplace Seller Summit in San Francisco.

Amazon Didn’t Pay Tax Then, Temu Doesn’t Now
Amazon took advantage of tax laws that allowed online retailers to avoid collecting sales tax to create a pricing advantage. Now, Temu has a pricing advantage created by not paying customs duties and/or taxes. Amazon didn’t have to collect sales tax because it sold in most states without physical presence, also known as “nexus.” Any retailer was obliged to collect from shoppers only if it had a substantial physical presence in their state.

Federal Regulator Says Amazon Can Be Held Responsible for Faulty Goods Sold on its Marketplace
In a landmark order, the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission said the agency unanimously agreed Amazon “fits squarely” within the definition of a distributor of goods and bears responsibility for the recall of faulty products. The decision addresses a thorny issue faced by Amazon for years, with the company arguing it’s merely a conduit between third-party sellers and shoppers. A judge said Amazon’s fulfillment program for sellers give it “far-reaching control” over the products sold on ..read more

1% of U.S. Amazon Sellers Sell Outside the Continent
Most American Amazon sellers stick to selling in the U.S. Despite Amazon’s attempts to foster cross-border e-commerce, less than 1% sell outside the continent. According to Marketplace Pulse research, 12% of U.S. sellers sell on Amazon Canada, and 5% sell on Amazon Mexico. Many use the Remote Fulfillment with FBA service, which lets sellers sell to customers in Canada, Mexico, and Brazil without sending inventory to those countries. Due to its proximity to the U.S., Canada has more successful sellers from the U.S. than Canada.
