Viognier is the sixth most planted white grape in British Columbia with only 234 acres planted. This represents only 4.5% of the total BC white wine grape crop. However, more Viognier is being grown each year and the acreage grew by 42% between 2008 and 20191.

This is the first wine I have tasted from Gneiss (pronounced “nice”) Wines, an Okanagan winery located in the District Wine Village in Oliver. The winery sits adjacent to the McIntry bluff. The massive Gneiss rock in the vineyard creates the ideal soil characteristics and heat retention after sunset.
Gneiss is coarse to medium-grained banded metamorphic rock formed from igneous or sedimentary rocks during regional metamorphism. Rich in feldspars and quartz, gneisses also contain mica minerals and aluminous or ferromagnesian silicates.

Dirty Laundry Vineyard introduces the 2022 BC White vintage.
I have been fortunate to have enjoyed Dirty laundry wines since 2016 and I can confirm the consistent quality of this vintage. Dirty Laundry Vineyards is one of our go-to wineries when we have friends or family visiting the Okanagan Valley. Can’t wait for summer, relaxing on the patio and enjoying the wines and the view of the vineyard and the Kettle Valley railroad.
Before we go to the new wines, here are the winemaker’s notes on the 2022 season and harvest.

Baco Noir Grapes
Baco Noir is a highly acidic and deeply colour wine. Often low in tannin content, sometimes said to have a herbaceous taste. Light to medium-bodied, it blends well with varieties of less colour. Only 12 acres of Baco Noir grows in BC, representing only 0.1% of the total wine acreage.
BC Wineries Producing Baco Noir
The only wineries selling 100% Baco Noir in British Columbia are Ancient Hill Winery and Summerhill Pyramid Winery. I have tried many of the Ancient Hill vintages and it is a superb wine. The Baco Noir is a gorgeous bold red colour. The wine ..read more
