I am Ed Theilmann. This is a blog about my travels and adventures on my 1975 Moto Guzzi 850-T and my 1988 BMW K100 RS. This blog is about motorcycling. It's about wrenching on my bikes getting them ready to ride, travelling on them, and restoring some of them.

Like the title says I am an addict. Over the last couple days I have come to terms with selling off my BMW K100 RS and my nice little 66 Valiant vert. Well this morning I'm looking through motorcycle parts for sale ads on Craigslist when I come across 2 service manuals for a BMW R60/5 . I look ,I respond because as I sell off the K100 I find myself with the time and space to finally get to fixing up this nice little 1971 BMW R60/5 that my friend Tony gave me way back when I finished restoring a 1966 Yamaha YM1 for him.
I basically built him a brand new 1966 motorcycle. This was back in ..read more

Yesterday was a crappy day with the weather. It was raw and cloudy. I just couldn't get into riding so I went down to the basement. Started straightening up some and pulled out all my art supplies that I had brought home from my camp last October. Handling all this stuff got me motivated to set up a studio area up in the room where my three tortoises reside . So, I made space, put things away in the attic, brought up all my brushes and tubes of paint, set it all up and painted a picture of a stormy day at the ocean.
Today is a repeat of yesterday with clouds, wind, some showers, and temps ..read more

It seems like it's been going on forever but it;s really only been three months.I'm on the last model of bike and it's April . Life is good in many ways so I really have no complaints.I mean really, how can I complain about anything, I'm about to turn 75 years old ! Yup,the end of this month I'm am three quarters of a century old. Damn , when I was 20 no one thought I'd ever see 25 . Not even me but here I an down in the basement digging through boxes of antique motorcycle parts and planning my next motorcycle trip.Thought about getting a newer bike to head out with this September ..read more

Maybe not never ending but it sure feels that way. Actually I'm making progress. I have 3 basic models of motorcycles I collect and have finished repacking and writing down what is in the boxes , numbering them , getting them on shelves in numerical order , and separating the junk to take to the scrap yard for the two oldest models. Those are the Yamaha YDS3 / YM1 model and the Yamaha DS6 model.Next it's on to the R5 stuff. So,I am about three quarters of the way to the finish line for the inventory of the motorcycle parts. When this phase is completed I move on to the clean u ..read more

Been down in the basement this last week sorting through boxes and boxes of motorcycle parts. It's an overwhelming job at times but I'm finally starting to see progress. I've been collecting parts for the 4 models of Yamaha two stroke bikes I'm interested in for the better part of forty years now . Last inventory was twenty years ago when we moved into the house we now live in. It all started way back when my little 1969 Yamaha DS6C got stolen from my back yard in 1978 . What happened is that it got
stolen, destroyed, and recovered back in the late 70's . It sat while I fooled around wit ..read more

So yesterday it was beautiful outside and I went out on the K100 like I said I was going to do. The ride was great ! I ended up going for a 3 hour ride all over the place. Ended up at the beach for a short break then rode some more. I returned home around 3PM when the school buses hit the road. This is also when the number of assholes multiplies by a factor of ten. I have a window when I ride here in Long Island . I ride from about 10 AM until 3 PM when most of them are off the roads and working . It's my survival strategy . Now up in the Adirondacks I can ride as long as I'd like in sum ..read more

Yes it's mid January now . We have had some nasty weather here in New York but no real snow yet. Serious rain and wind have been on the menu weekly but it's been on the warmer side. I managed to get the side yard in front of my garage all cleaned out last week. I moved the wood stove I bought back in September or October into the garage . This was no easy job doing it alone at age 74 but I managed. Once in the garage where I had cleared a space for it I completely cleaned it inside and out then oiled the whole thing to protect it from rusting while not in use. It's going up t ..read more

Well, the Covid has released it's grip on me . It was really fucked up but it's in the past now .Still waiting for a negative test but I haven't been sick for 4 or 5 days now. The weather here in New York really sucks, cold and damp and foggy. It's been this way for days now with no end in sight. Hoping for a neg test tomorrow so I can go visit with my family. My nephew and his two children are coming down from Oneonta where they live for a visit. We all have to test because my brother in law Mark has leukemia and a bad ticker so anything like Covid could kill him. So,we all test whenever ..read more

I ache pretty much from head to toe and now my nose is running non stop with sneezing fits. Oh well,it can't always be cool stuff to write about ..read more

So, last Friday I was getting ready to take the last bike in for an inspection.Rolled it out of the shed where it has been stored since late March and cleaned it up. After I got it all cleaned up I put in a battery and started it up.All seemed good so I shut it off and had a cup of coffee.Came back after around 10 minutes to see a puddle of gas under the bike. The carbs are leaking. I tapped them with a screwdriver handle and they stopped leaking so I started it and rode it up the street a few times. It felt rich and the leak returned. Pulled the carbs off and cleaned & reset them to ..read more
