July 14, 2024: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. I don’t know how many of you got a chance to watch the movie Barbie when it was out, or streamed it online, but if you did, then you know it wasn’t about a doll – not really.  It was a fabulous critique of patriarchy, misogyny, and sexism – all in the hilarious context of Barbieland and Kendom.  Today we are getting a view into some biblical Kendom, that land of blatant patriarchy, in our story from 2 Samuel and in the Gospel.  No, not really in the text itself, but in the way we have interpreted it ..read more

June 9, 2024: May God’s words be spoken, may God’s words be heard.  Amen. I love our Mass on the Grass…With Brass!  Of course this year, we are missing “the grass.”  Still, we do this each year, not only because we can be surrounded by the beauty of God’s creation, but because when we move outside our doors into our community – together – to offer our thanksgiving to God, we are literally surrounded by the gifts of God – the sounds and sights of creation, and the many people we serve in Christ’s name.  And by that, we are reminded that going to church isn’t about a specific ..read more

June 2, 2024: May God’s words be spoken.  May God’s words be heard.  Amen. Like many of you, I was glued to the television taking in the monumental news this week of a former President of the United States being convicted of 34 felony crimes by the people of the State of New York.  Of course, this is new to us here, but many other countries, including France, South Korea, Egypt, Algeria, Japan, Israel, Russia, Norway, Italy, and more, have convicted & imprisoned former heads of state long before we ever got around to just putting one on trial.  So, not exactly big news ..read more

Mass on the Grass Returns – July 11
Christ Episcopal Church
by Christ Episcopal Church

Our Mass on the Grass will be returning after a long absence, but with a different day and time. On Thursdays at 6pm from July 11th-August 15th stop by the park across the street (bring a lawn chair or a blanket) and enjoy a casual and relaxed worship experience. It is a shorter service that features a contemporary reading. The homily is short and interactive. There is nothing more wonderful than worshiping our Creator beneath the boughs of trees, and the sound of a running creek. So join us on Thursday evenings at 6pm in the glen across the street from the church (just across Bloomfield Ave ..read more

May God’s words be spoken.  May God’s words be heard.  Amen. The Feast of Pentecost doesn’t get the same attention as Easter or Christmas.  We don’t hold big family gatherings (though for some, that may be a good thing).  It isn’t a typical day for exchanging gifts or sending Pentecost cards proclaiming a windy day of fire and speaking in tongues.  Which is kind of a shame, because that would be so cool!  Now last week, because it was Mother’s Day, I asked you all to step out of your comfort zone and join me in using mother rather than father when speaking of God ..read more

On Saturday, May 18th at 3 PM, St. Peter’s Morristown will host a screening of the documentary The Philadelphia Eleven, chronicling the ordination of eleven women to the Episcopal priesthood in defiance of existing church regulations. The documentary sheds light on the pivotal events that unfolded in 1974 at a church in Philadelphia when eleven courageous women challenged the status quo by seeking ordination to the priesthood, despite the Episcopal Church’s official stance that only men were eligible for such roles. The screening will take place in the Parish House at the church, located at 70 ..read more
