Helen, GA Photo: Let Us Drink Beer Blog For many beer lovers, this time of year is our favorite time of year. August unofficially starts the Oktoberfest beer season, even though the actual festival doesn’t happen until September, as these seasonal favorites start reaching retail shelves. I live in North Georgia, and we have the distinction of having one of the longest running Oktoberfest celebrations in the U.S. in nearby Helen, GA. Helen was a sleepy little mountain town until 1969 when some of the local businessmen and a local artist decided to turn it into a replica of a Bavarian village. A ..read more

Winter calls for hearty Stouts or Baltic Porter. What about Spring? I dare say most beer drinkers do not associate a particular beer with Spring, but I submit to you Maibock. It’s not ap ..read more

The Non-Alcoholic (NA) beer space has really taken a turn for the better in the last few years. The choices have become broader and better quality. Akademia Brewing Company Lobby Photo: Let Us Drink Beer Everyone has some places they have an emotional or nostalgic connection to. Places for one reason or another you always remember them fondly and enjoy visiting them every time you go. Akademia Brewing Company in Athens, GA is one of those places for me. Back in August 2019, after my daughter turned twenty-one, we had our first beers together there. It was the perfect place because we could grab dinner and it had a variety of styles available to satisfy just about any palate. She had Hidden Hazards Hefeweizen and I had Tell’em All To Go To ..read more
