Iowa State's Crops Team Competes at Regional Crops Contest
West Texas A&M University Regional Crops Contest Results
The Iowa State University’s Crops Team attended and competed at the WTAMU Regional Crops Contest this past weekend. The conference took place in Canyon Texas. Besides the competition, the team was able to tour a cotton gin in the panhandle of Texas and hike part of Palo Duro Canyon which all made for a memorable learning experience. The team travels to Manhattan, Kansas in 2 weeks for another regional contest.

Congratulations to the Iowa State University's PAS Soils Team for their accomplishments this past weekend. The 2022 PAS (Professional Agriculture Students) Spring Conference was held February 9th through 11th at the Quality Inn in Ames. The Iowa State University's PAS Team attended and competed. Twelve scholarships were given to Eleven Iowa State University (ISU) College of Agriculture and Life Sciences (CALS) students at the 2022 Iowa Agribusiness Showcase and Conference on February 9 in Des Moines, Iowa. Bhattacharyya named AAAS Fellow
College of Agriculture and Life Sciences faculty Madan Bhattacharyya and Aaron Gassmann are among six Iowa State University researchers the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS) named this week to its class of 2021 Fellows for their “distinguished efforts to advance science or its applications.” They will be recognized at the AAAS’ annual meeting, planned for February 17-20.

Grant money awarded to study DAPL impact
Agronomy graduate student Luis Bentancor, along with associate professor Dr. Bradley Miller, has been awarded $14,964 in grant money to study soil health indicators in areas impacted by the Dakota Access pipeline installation.
The North Central Region of Sustainable Agriculture Research and Education (NCR-SARE) awarded the funds as part of their Graduate Student Sustainable Agriculture Grant Awards.

Crops Team Success
For the first time since 1988, the ISU Crops Team won first place in both Fall collegiate competitions. The team was made up of Wyatt Bailey, Caitlyn Bruntz, Alex Coughlin, and Tom Thompson. The team attended competitions in Kansas City and right at home in Ames. Between these two competitions, the team ended up with over 30 awards.
