I rather suspect that, in the end, almost any bike can be used. What do you say? You can go winter cycling on your summer bike, even your skinny tired road bike. Some icebikers prefer just that. Cuts through the snow, down to the traction, they claim. It’s not till you experiment with something else that you can determine that what you are using is better or worse. This is why it is desirable to try different bikes, lights, tires, etc. All this can get expensive. That’s why I offer these opinions. I am trying to save you money. So, I am going to cover the different types of equipment that I an ..read more

The class starts in minutes. You’re new at this type of thing. A crowd assembles at the door. Some of them seem to know each other. Wasn’t this supposed to be a beginner’s class? Why does everyone seem to be talking to each other like they already know what they’re doing? Why does everyone have towels that match the color of their Lycra shorts? Why does anyone have a towel at all? A young boy shows up and says hello to everyone. Oh, Good God! It’s the instructor. Like sacrificial lemmings, everyone follows him into the room. Shouldn’t he still be in school? He looks too young to be in charge o ..read more

The truth is that not all mountain bikes are designed with biking up and down mountains in mind. Conversely, not everyone who buys a mountain bike wants to use it for going up and down mountains either. Related: 15 Best Bikes For ..read more

11 Reasons Why a Foldable Bike Is the Best Commuter Bike
Icebike.org
by Euan McKenzie

A long time ago someone suggested I should buy a folding bike for my morning commute to the office. I laughed at them. Why would I try something that looked like it belonged in 1975? I’d had enough of being laughed at in school for just being me. I had never needed anyone else’s help to make me look like a moron, so why would I openly court such a thing now as a fully (mostly) grown adult. So I laughed and left it at that for several years. Then one particularly wet, rainy, and cold day riding my full-size mountain bike down along, and through the inner streets of a nameless city I used to liv ..read more

How To Choose Cycle Computers for Winter And Ice Cycling
Icebike.org
by John Andersen

In winter everything becomes problematic. Even the simple bike computer. The problem is not the computers themselves, but trying to use them can be maddening when you have winter gloves, or worse, lobster claws or mittens on, and your fingers are an inch wide. Those little buttons are often hard to push. Since much winter icebiking, for commuters, at least, is done in the dark, some winter cyclists go for weeks without actually seeing their computers in action. Just as well, we are often depressed by our speed in the winter anyway. However, it doesn’t have to be that way. Some computers accomm ..read more

If you ask me, bike racks are great for carrying your bike around. I always use one when I have to travel interstate. If you know me, you know I don’t like to be without my bicycle for long. Yes, you are right! It can get confusing. But the good part is that I will guide you through the process. It will make choosing a rack according to your needs easy.
