At Canonical, we’re committed to open-source principles and fostering collaboration. Over the last 20 years, Ubuntu’s brand has become a leader in open source, with an open operating system. Our community shapes Ubuntu’s journey, and we recognise room for improvement in how we collaborate, particularly in design at Canonical. Despite most of our development being open source, our design processes often lack transparency, particularly in visuals, user interaction, and research. We are excited to announce that we kickstarted a working group within the Design team with a mission to empower exter ..read more

Clouds, be they private or public, surprisingly remain one of the most DIY-favouring markets. Perhaps due to the nebulous and increasingly powerful technologies, a series of myths, or even unnecessary egos, the majority of non-tech-centric enterprises (meaning, companies whose primary business scope rests outside the realm of IT software and hardware) still try to build and nurture in-house cloud management teams, without considering outsourcing even part of their workload. Self-management has its advantages, however, thinking it’s the only option is a mistake. Reading this you may think: “man ..read more

There is no AI without data Artificial intelligence is the most exciting technology revolution of recent years. Nvidia, Intel, AMD and others continue to produce faster and faster GPU’s enabling larger models, and higher throughput in decision making processes. Outside of the immediate AI-hype, one area still remains somewhat overlooked: AI needs data (find out more here). First and foremost, storage systems need to provide high performance access to ever growing datasets, but more importantly they need to ensure that this data is securely stored, not just for the present, but also for the fu ..read more
