I'm so excited..the next Linden home theme was revealed last night at the SL17B event, right after Patch Linden's 'Meet the Linden' interview... I think a lot of people were waiting to see if he'd mention the new theme, which he did, and the theme is  stilt homes, a beachy theme, based on the Floridian stilt homes style. Many have expressed a desire for a homes by water, and I think this will definitely appeal. I headed off to take a look myself this morning...and I absolutely love them! They are very similar in construction to the traditionals, but they tick a lot of boxes of what I ..read more

It's that time of year again! Time to celebrate Second Life's Birthday. This year sees the 17th year of Second Life on the web. As usual, the celebrations are taking place across multiple connected regions and feature numerous events from 19th June to 12th July. The event kicked of yesterday with an opening address by Patch Linden, which I thought was a very considerate and mindful of the events and issues we are currently seeing in the world at large. You can catch the speech in the YouTube video at the end of this post. I love attending SL Birthday events. My favourite pastime is to vi ..read more

The Stay at Home Club - Free Gifts in Challenging Times

Stay at Home is a phrase we are all too familiar with now. But in the context of Second Life, this kind of 'Stay at Home' is welcome! There have been many examples in real life of people being so generous and thoughtful to others during this challenging time, and it's carried over into Second Life too. One small example is the Stay at Home Club in Second Life through one of the Bellisserian groups. The SHC was set up earlier this year, to kindly provide free gifts to Second Lifers amidst the COVID-19 situation. You can read more about their story in their about page. Under the 'Gifts' secti ..read more

Going Supermarket Shopping in a Virtual World

I don't usually like going to the supermarket, but sometimes experiences of real life can be so much more fun in a virtual world... I was delighted to find out about the Stay at Home Club in Second Life recently (more in a separate blog post about that), which has kindly created a list of vendors offering free items in the midst of the COVID-19 situation. One of the vendors was offering a free lemonade stand, which I thought would be fun to get (not sure when I'm going to use it, but that is much like my hundreds of other inventory items...). So I popped over to the destination, Junk Food ..read more

A whole year has already flown by since Linden Lab revealed the first of the new Premium Linden Homes in Second Life, on the new continent of Bellisseria, and this weekend marks the anniversary with an inworld bash and a great Expo... It's been a fascinating year watching the development and release of the new Linden homes in Second Life. I remember when I first heard about the new releases back in May (I think) last year. The first batch had been released in April and they were already in hot demand and many were avidly trying to catch one using auto-refresh browser add-ons and staying glue ..read more

We've been teased with developments on the SSP map, Patch Linden's photos, and the knowledge that all would be revealed at this year's Christmas Expo  which is held in partnership with the American Cancer Society. Winter Fun in Second Life - Santa's Hideaway, Bellisseria

Continuing on my annual roam around fun and beautiful Winter and Christmas destinations in Second Life a cute new location has been made available for all to visit on Bellisseria. There have been a some great examples of homes turned into community venues this year on Bellisseria, the new Second Life continent. I think it's very generous of those homeowners to give up their home for a while and give the community some enjoyment from them in the form of cafe's, music hangouts and other social places. Some seem to be permanent, others are temporary. One such seasonal place is Santa's Hideaway ..read more

If you're a big kid at heart when it comes to Christmas, Second Life has plenty of seasonal fun destinations to visit. It's time for my annual winter hop around the various Christmas and winter themed places. I've been doing this for years, and every year I find wonderful destinations. Some open up yearly, but it doesn't get boring because the creators change the environment up every time. My first stop this year is Christmas Town. This place has everything you could wish for if you love all that's cute and Christmasey. There's no flying here but a lovely Santa Sleigh Ride can takes you ..read more

The Particle Laboratory, Teal

I've been visiting some old haunts recently. One place I used to love to visit in my early SL days is the Cloud Chateau at the Particle Laboratory in Teal, so I thought I'd TP over and see if it still existed. I held my breath during the TP process expecting to get the 'This place is unavailable' message you get when a region no longer exists. So I admit I was a bit surprised when it went through and wasn't now owned by someone else, or no longer in existence, but still contained the Particle Laboratory, which Cloud Chateau is part of! If you are interested in exploring old builds in SL ..read more
